Before the game the Dodgers announced that they placed Clayton Kershaw on the bereavement list. Kershaw reportedly left immediately following Sunday’s game due to unspecified personal reasons. Kershaw will have to remain on the bereavement list for at least three games and no more than seven. This should not affect his scheduled Friday night start in San Francisco. In a related move, the Dodgers also reinstated Hanley Ramirez from the disabled list.

Hanley will likely start tomorrow on his bobblehead night, but tonight we should see him get an at-bat during the game at some point.

The game was real ugly, and it pains me to even recap the drubbing. Here goes…

Ted Lilly promptly serves up a lead-off homerun to Dexter Fowler. Fowler now has eight homeruns on the season. The Rockies, who hit a lot of homeruns, take an early 1-0 lead. Jordan Pacheco follows with a single which falls right in front of Ethier in right. Carlos Gonzalez continues the first inning batting practice off Lilly with a double off the center field wall. Then a three-run shot by Wilin Rosario gives the Rockies a 4-0 lead. Finally the first out of the game is recorded on a deep fly ball to center hit by Michael Cuddyer. Justin Sellers smothers a grounder by Nolan Arenado that almost got through for a hit. Josh Rutledge flies out to Ethier to mercifully end the inning.

Tyler Chatwood is on the mound for Colorado, and Carl Crawford quickly taps out to third. A.J. Ellis flies out to right. Adrian Gonzalez‘s comebacker which hits the side of the mound is out number three as the Dodgers go down in order.

The opposing pitcher Chatwood singles off the glove of Skip Schumaker for a one-out base hit Ted Lilly strikes out Fowler this time around. Pacheco draws a two-out walk. CarGo hits a little roller up along third for an infield single. The bases are now loaded for Rosario. Rosario grounds out to third, and Lilly escapes the jam but barely.

In the bottom of the second, Andre Ethier singles with one out for the Dodgers first hit of the game. Skip Schumaker manages a single as well, and the Dodgers now have two on with one out. Of course the potential rally is squashed when Luis Cruz hits into a 1-6 double play. His line drive comebacker is snared by Chatwood and Ethier is doubled up at second.

Lilly makes a fielding error in the top of the third which allows Arenado to reach safely with one out. Jonathan Herrera singles after a fly out from Rutledge. Tyler Chatwood singles to load the bases for Colorado. Then Fowler brings in the fifth run for the Rockies after Lilly walks Fowler. 5-0 Rockies. Pacheco strikes out, and the damage is contained to one run.

Ted Lilly only made it through 3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, 2 strikeouts, and 2 walks on 71 pitches.

Josh Wall gets absolutely clobbered in the fourth inning as the Rockies hang a high five. CarGo flies out, but Wilin Rosario then doubles to right field. Cuddyer gets a free pass by Wall. Nolan Arenado singles down the third base line for his first MLB hit. Luis Cruz does make a nice attempt, and he almost is able to throw out the runner at second base. Rutledge’s base hit to right brings in a sixth run, and the bases remain loaded. Herrera’s shallow fly out to Crawford makes the runners hold. Chatwood comes up with his third hit of the night, and the Rockies score another two runs in this blowout game. It’s now 8-0 Colorado. The Dodgers have just three hits. The inning continues after Wall walks Fowler. Don Mattingly is just leaving Wall out there, because he doesn’t want to burn through the entire bullpen. Pacheco hits a ground-rule double, and the Rockies tack on another two in this drubbing of Wall. The inning finally ends after CarGo pops out.

In the bottom of the fourth there is a very scary incident. Chatwood hits Matt Kemp off the nose with a pitch. Kemp falls to the ground, but he gets up and takes first base although shaken up. My heart sank for a moment. Ethier singles, and Kemp takes third. Skip Schumaker strikes out. Luis Cruz grounds into a force out to end the scoreless inning.

Josh wall is taking one for the team, and returns to the mound of shame in the top of the fifth. Rosario promptly singles for this third hit on the night.  Crawford makes a nice catch to rob Cuddyer of a hit. Arenado then proceeds to hit his first MLB homerun, and the Rockies are now up 13-0. Rutledge singles. Then the training staff goes out to talk to Josh Wall who began to throw in the 80s this inning. Wall convinces the staff that he’s ok. Herrera strikes out. Chatwood grounds out, but not before Colorado scores another two runs.

J.P. Howell is in for the sixth inning. Fowler singles on a ball that is pushed by a diving Schumaker. CarGo grounds  into a force out. Cuddyer is called out on strikes to end the inning, and for the first time since the second inning, the Rockies fail to score.

Adrian Gonzalez hits a long single with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Matt Kemp strikes out swinging, and Gonzalez takes second on a wild pitch. Ethier flies out.

Matt Guerrier will pitch the seventh inning. He sends the Rockies down 1-2-3.

Adam Ottavino comes out of the Colorado pen to relieve Chatwood in the bottom of the seventh. Skip Schumaker reaches on an error by Rutledge at second. Cruz strikes out swinging. Sellers flies out. Jerry Hairston Jr. goes deep, and the two-run homerun erases the shutout. Hanley Ramirez comes up for his at-bat of the season. He’s called out on strikes looking.

Tyler Chatwood pitched 7 innings while allowing no runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks on 95 pitches.

Paco Rodriguez will come in for the eighth. Ottavino and Eric Young both strike out against Paco. Pacheco grounds out, and the Rockies go down in order.

The Dodgers painfully go down 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the eighth. Gonzalez and Kemp both strike out.

In the ninth, Skip Schumaker is pitching. Yes, you read that right. It’s that bad. Skip allows a couple of singles and a walk. He touches 90-mph on the gun. He retired the side without allowing a run!

Wilton Lopez will pitch the bottom of the ninth, and he easily shuts the Dodger down 1-2-3.

Vin Scully called this disaster of a game an “avalanche.” Fitting since everything seems to be crashing down on the Dodgers right now.

The Dodgers drop below .500 again and are now 12-13. If they lose tomorrow, they will have had a losing April officially.

Tomorrow Hyun-jin Ryu will face the Rockies for the first time at 7:10 p.m.

We were all scoreboard watching tonight as the Cardinals and Nationals game played out at Busch Stadium. Michael Morse hit a grand slam homerun in the first inning, and there was a very odd do-over by Washington after the umpires called the players back onto the base paths after the homerun was concluded to be in fact a homerun. Morse went up to the plate sans bat and pretended to swing for the fences (he’s very good at those practice swings anyways), and the base runners proceeded to round the diamond for official scoring purposes I guess. The Cardinals managed to tie the game up 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth to force the game into extra innings. Washington answered our prayers by scoring two runs in the tenth and holding on for the win. Meanwhile, the Dodgers behind Joe Blanton, were up 2-0 on the Rockies after a monster solo blast from Matt Kemp and a RBI single from A.J. Ellis in the fourth inning. Blanton pitched a gem tonight, and his six shutout innings was truly clutch. Ronald Belisario and Kenley Jansen both pitched scoreless frames in relief. Matt Kemp followed up with an encore homerun in the eighth, and Brandon League continued to dominate as he picked up the save in the ninth.

Joe Blanton opens the game with a strikeout. Josh Rutledge goes down swinging. Charlie Blackmon pulls one into the right field corner for a double. Jordan Pacheco hits a long fly ball out to right center. Wilin Rosario strikes out to end the inning.

Nick Punto draws a lead-off walk against Tyler Chatwood in the home half of the first inning. Andre Ethier grounds into a double play. Matt Kemp singles immediately following making that double play hurt a little more. Adrian Gonzalez strokes a single into left field, and the Dodgers have runners at first and third with two outs for Hanley Ramirez. Hanley hits a little flare towards shallow left field, but Josh Rutledge makes a diving catch to end the inning and save a run.

Blanton retires the Rockies 1-2-3 in the second.

Tyler Chatwood returns the favor by sending the Dodgers down in order in the bottom of the second.

In the third, Chatwood manages to hit a one-out single up the middle. The opposing pitcher is actually hitting .286. Rutledge grounds into a double play on a comebacker, and although Hanley double clutches the ball he just barely gets the out at second. On the replay it looks as though Rutledge was in fact safe.

The Dodgers go down meekly in the bottom of the third.

Joe Blanton is pitching very well, and he strikes out Pacheco and Rosario in the top of fourth as the Rockies go down 1-2-3 again.

Matt Kemp proceeds to crush a humongous homerun which went all the way up the left field pavilion- estimated 461 feet. That’s Kemp’s 21st Bison Blast of the season! Gonzo whiffs. Hanley singles, and he steals second with Victorino at the plate. Shane draws a walk. Luis Cruz strikes out swinging. A.J. Ellis singles to right field, and Hanley brings in the second run of the inning for the Dodgers. Blanton strikes out to end the inning. Chatwood ends up striking out the side, but he also serves up two runs in the process.

Andrew Brown hits a flare single into left field with one out in the top of the fifth. Matt McBride grounds out. DJ LeMahieu singles with two out, Tyler Chatwood grounds into a force out to end the frame.

Even though Chatwood just hit, Jim Tracy goes to the pen and brings in Josh Outman to pitch the bottom of the fifth. Chatwood had made 74 pitches, just under the Jim Tracy threshold of 75 pitches. Punto, Ethier, and Kemp all make out consecutively against Outman.

Blanton allows another two singles in the top of the sixth to Rutledge and Pacheco. Pacheco’s hit was on a comebacker to Blanton which hit him and he was unable to find thereafter as it bounced behind him on the mound. Rosario strikes out to end the inning and strand the runners.

Outman induces a groundout from Gonzo to begin the bottom half of the sixth. Tracy decides to bring in the righty Edgmer Escalona to pitch to Hanley Ramirez. Hanley foils Tracy’s strategy, and he comes up with his second hit of the game. With Victorino at the plate, Hanley steals his second base of the night and his 20th of the year. Victorino flies out. Cruz ground out.

Joe Blanton is still in for the seventh, but after Chris Nelson leads off with a single Don Mattingly quickly brings in the hook in favor of Ronald Belisario. Beli comes in and takes care of business while striking out two Rox.

A.J. Ellis singles to third base on a soft grounder, and Elian Herrera advances A.J. to second base on a sacrifice. Nick Punto strikes out swinging, and Tracy will go to the bullpen once again. Rex Brothers, the lefty, comes in and quickly retires Ethier on one pitch for a fly out.

Kenley Jansen comes into pitch the eighth for the Dodgers. Nick Punto moves over to third, and Mark Ellis comes into play second. Luis Cruz left the game with a headache. Feel better, Cochito! Jansen whiffs Jonathan Herrera for the first out. Rutledge and Blackmon both fly out.

Josh Roenicke becomes the fifth Colorado pitcher of the night in the bottom of the eighth. Matt Kemp comes up and hits a smooth easy solo homerun to right field! That’s his 22nd homerun of the year and his second of this game. Beast Mode has returned in full force, but is it too late? The Dodgers now lead 3-0. Matt Reynolds comes in from the Colorado bullpen, and Adrian Gonzalez proceeds to double to right field. Ramirez comes up with his third hit of the night, a soft single to center. Colorado will make yet another pitching change, and they bring in Carlos Torres to face Victorino. Shane grounds out. Colorado will intentionally walk Bobby Abreu to load the bases up. A.J. Ellis grounds into the inning ending double play.

Brandon League comes in looking to shut down the Rockies in the ninth. Pacheco quickly grounds out to third. Rosario pops out. Nelson strikes out swinging, and the Dodgers win their fourth game in a row!

The Dodgers capture their 83rd win of the year, and they gain a game in the Wild Card race. They now sit at two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card spot with four games to play. The Dodgers will look to sweep the Rockies in the finale game tomorrow, and then they will take on their arch rivals, the NL West Champion San Francisco Giants in the last three games of the season.

Tomorrow afternoon Josh Beckett will go up against Jorge De La Rosa at 1:10 pm in game three.
