Last week 28 minor league players, all with major league experience of some kind, filed for free agency. I would be remiss in my duties if I did not mention that Outfielder Trent Oeltjen was one of them. Oeltjen an outfielder from Australia signed with the Dodgers in 2010. The 29 year old Sydney native played in 14 games with the Dodgers in 2010, and 61 games with the club in 2011. Oeltjen batted .217 (5 for 23) with no home runs in 2010, and batted .197 (14 for 71) with two home runs, and six runs driven in for the Boys in Blue.

Trent Oeltjen is filing for free agency.-Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

Oeltjen spent the entire 2012 season in Albuquerque, without ever being called up to the Dodgers. Oeltjen played in 122 games for the Isotopes. He batted .294 with 13 home runs, and 61 RBI. Oeltjen was originally drafted and signed by the Minnesota Twins in 2001. Oeltjen has 12 years of experience playing in the minor leagues. He made his MLB debut with the Arizona Dbacks in 2009. He played in 24 games for the Snakes that year batted .243 and smacked three home runs. Over his 12 year minor league career, Oeltjen has a .299 average, while hitting 68 home runs. Oeltjen has hit five home runs in the majors. Oeltjen can play all three outfield positions, but played the majority of his games for the Topes in right field this season. (71)

With the Dodger’s outfield already set for 2013, and several other players ahead of him on the depth chart, it’s not surprising that he is looking for work elsewhere. We wish Oeltjen a fond farewell, and good luck as he looks for greener pastures. G’day Mate!

If you would like to see who the other 27 minor league players were who filed for free agency, check out the list here.

I am back from the dead! Somewhat at least. After a harrowing weekend of influenza and hospital stays, I am back in Blue. I bet you thought you had seen the last of me no? Sorry guys, but you know I can’t let you off that easy. I am gone for a couple of days, and it seems like I have missed so much. I was so delirious, that I even thought Juan Uribe was an all-star. Man oh man, please don’t make me ever relive that experience again. (I mean Uribe not the influenza) Anyways, we now know that the final six bidders in the sale and auction of the Dodgers have been whittled down to the final four. Stacie has all the details on the process, as we move into the last couple of weeks before the April 1st deadline for Frank McCourt to pick a winning bidder.
