]]> Sometimes there are players that just have your number, and it’s best just not to let them beat you. I remember when I was a kid, that particular guy was Jack Clark. When I was in school, it was Jim Eisenreich who seemed to always have the Dodgers number. Of course the much maligned Barry Bonds always had that title. This year it’s Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt.

Goldschmidt hit another two home runs tonight. The third consecutive game he has homered against the Dodgers. He has nine on the season and is batting .314. Against  the Dodgers he is out of this world. Against the Dodgers Goldschmidt is hitting .330/.412/.544 with seven home runs, and an OPS of .946. At Dodger Stadium, Goldschmidt is hitting .380 with six home runs, and an OPS of over 1.000. The big first baseman is hitting .458 (11 for 24) with four home runs and 11 RBI in six games against the Dodgers in 2013. Goldschmidt hit two home runs tonight, one a two-run shot, and the other a booming solo shot that doomed the Dodgers to their seventh straight defeat. Both home runs were hit off the Dodger’s two best pitchers, Clayton Kershaw, and Kenley Jansen

 

Don Mattingly described Paul Goldschmidt as a “one man wrecking crew”.

That’s a pretty accurate description.

Someone else asked Mattingly why he didn’t walk Goldschmidt in the eighth inning with the bases empty. Mattingly replied “ The bases were empty. He hasn’t gotten the Barry Bonds status yet”.

Somehow I have a feeling if Goldschmidt keeps on terrorizing the Dodgers he may just earn that reputation permanently around Chavez Ravine. Please Dodgers, do us all a favor. Next series against Arizona, just walk the guy. It isn’t hard to extend four fingers in the air.

*Trade news* The Dodgers have acquired RHP Brandon League from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor leaguers OF Leon Landry and RHP Logan Bawcom.

This game was pretty much over as soon as Aaron Harang took the mound tonight. The Big Show was a flop tonight. He served up a first inning three-run homerun to Paul Goldschmidt then a grand slam to Chris Johnson in the fifth. To be honest, I was more interested in the trade deadline wire than this loss. After an utterly enjoyable weekend filled with a sweep of our arch rivals, the Dodgers let the D-backs push them around back at home. (more…)
