Cofield is a 25-year old righty out of Alabama who was drafted by the Atlanta Braves back in 2005. He has yet to break into the Majors after pitching in the minor leagues for eight seasons with the Braves, White Sox, and Pirates. Last season he pitched in 11 games for the AA-Altoona Curve where he went 0-1 with a 5.28 ERA, 15 strikeouts, and 4 walks in 15 1/3 innings pitched. The 6’5″ Cofield had began as a starter, but was used as a reliever once he was traded to the White Sox organization after the 2010 season. He was released by the Pirates last June. He will most likely play a relief role in AA for the Dodgers in 2013.

Jaylon Harris is an interesting name, since he does not even have a Baseball-Reference page. In fact, I cannot find much about him at all. Seeing that he has never played professional baseball, he probably is slated to play in lower A ball.

So, the Dodgers sign a couple of no names, but we all understand the need to fill out those minor league rosters. We may never even speak of these names again, but it’s still worth reporting.

Here’s a side note, and a funny one at that:

The Boston Red Sox amusingly signed Charlie Haeger who hasn’t pitched in the Majors since he was with the Dodgers back in 2009-2010. Never let the knuckleball die!
