<p>— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) <a href="https://twitter.com/Dodgers/statuses/347493330134908928">June 19, 2013</a></p></blockquote>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">So could the Dodgers come through for Vin in the second game of a rare day/night double header at Yankee Stadium?</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The Dodgers played two games at Yankee Stadium today, giving us nearly seven hours of Dodger Baseball crammed into one day. The morning game saw the error filled Dodgers make four bumbling errors, two by Schumaker and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/belisro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Ronald Belisario</a></strong> each, which handed them a 6-4 defeat. </span></p>
<div id="attachment_10097" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 600px"><a href="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/7443188.jpg"><img class="size-large wp-image-10097" title="Chris Capuano" src="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/7443188-590x392.jpg" alt="" width="590" height="392" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Capuano was great, tossing six shutout frames-Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports</p></div>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The second game was much much more palatable for us Dodger fans to stomach. Veteran lefty <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/capuach01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Chris Capuano</a></strong> returned from the disabled list to toss six scoreless frames, and the Dodgers offense came through with a balanced attack of six runs on 12 hits. Five Dodgers had two hits each , and five different Dodgers knocked in one run each, <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/puigya01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Yasiel Puig</a></strong> had a bunt single, a solo home run, a stolen base, and scored three runs. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ramirha01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Hanley Ramirez</a></strong> had two RBI singles, and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gonzaad01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Adrian Gonzalez</a></strong> went 3 for 4 with a run scoring double. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The Dodgers scored two runs off of <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hugheph01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Phil Hughes</a></strong> in the top of the first with RBI singles from Gonzalez, and Hanley. They got an RBI double from <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/ethiean01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Andre Ethier</a></strong> in the third, and scored two more in the top of the fifth on Hanley’s second RBI single, and a sac fly from Hairston. Puig’s fifth home run was in the top of the seventh, and went to the opposite field, which put the Dodgers up 6-0.</span></p>
<div id="attachment_10099" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 600px"><a href="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/7443184.jpg"><img class="size-large wp-image-10099" title="Phil Huges" src="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/7443184-590x392.jpg" alt="" width="590" height="392" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">New York Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes (65) pitches against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the first inning of a game at Yankee Stadium.- Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports</p></div>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">That’s pretty much how it went in the second game. It was all Dodgers the entire game. Capuano whiffed four and allowed just three hits to pick up his second win of the season. The Dodgers earned a spit with a 6-0 win. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Even cooler was Vin scully’s twittercast during the game. Vin Scully took over the Dodger’s twitter account tonight and was tweeting throughout the game. Here&#8217;s my call of game two of the twin bill&#8230;&#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;"> </span><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Phil Hughes runs into trouble early in the top of the first. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/schumsk01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Skip Schumaker</a></strong> leads off with a single to left. Yasiel Puig follows with a perfectly placed bunt single up the third base line. With first and second, Adrian Gonzalez’s RBI bloop into right scores Schumaker, to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. Hanley Ramirez also singles through the hole at first to score the second run (Puig), and the Dodgers lead 2-0. Andre Ethier flies out to left for the first out. Hairston’s infield single loads the bases because Gonzo is slow as molasses. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/federti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Tim Federowicz</a></strong> grounds into an inning ending double play, but the Dodgers lead 2-0. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Chris Capuano’s first inning is of relative ease. An honest to goodness 123 frame. He whiffs <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gardnbr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Brett Gardner</a></strong>. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nixja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Jayson Nix</a></strong> flies out to center, and <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/canoro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Robinson Cano</a></strong> grounds out. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Hughes returns the favor with a scoreless top of the second. A <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/player_search.cgi?results=cruzlu01,cruz--006lui,cruz--009lui&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Luis Cruz</a></strong>  pop fly. A <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/ellisma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Mark Ellis</a></strong> fly ball preceded a Schumaker single. Hughes whiffs the mighty Puig, and we move onto the bottom half of the second.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Cappy hurls another 123 frame in the bottom of the second, and we move into the third inning. The Dodgers tack on another run in the third frame. Gonzo leads off with a double, and moves to third on Hanley’s deep fly to center. Ethier’s double to right scores Gonzo, and puts the Dodgers up 3-0. </span></p>
<div id="attachment_10100" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 376px"><a href="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/74431761.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-10100" title="Adrian Gonzalez" src="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/74431761.jpg" alt="" width="366" height="550" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Gonzo had three hits in the Dodgers 6-0 win-Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports</p></div>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The Yankees threaten in the bottom of the fourth. But get Dre’d. Hanley is unable to handle Jayson Nix’s infield single. Robinson Cano follows with a base hit to the gap in right center, but Ethier makes a great throw to throw out Cano at second. Vernon Well’s fly ball to Dre is too shallow to score the runner from third. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nealth01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Thomas Neal</a></strong> flies out to Dre as well for the third out, and the Dodgers preserve the shutout.</span></p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Got him at second base. What a play, wow. Andre Ethier just made a really good play. Right on the money to Ramirez. -<a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23VinScully&amp;src=hash">#VinScully</a></p>
<p>— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) <a href="https://twitter.com/Dodgers/statuses/347509425931685888">June 20, 2013</a></p></blockquote>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The Dodgers plate two more runs off of Hughes in the top of the fifth. Puig is hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. He is ok and trots down to first. With Gonzo at the plate, Puig steals second. Puig advances to third on Gonzo’s grounder. With the infield playing up, Hanley’s single into left scores Puig to put the Dodgers up 4-0. Ethier singles Hanley to third, and Hairston’s sacrifice fly scores Hanley to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">That impressed Vin…</span></p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Hanley Ramirez has 5 hits in 10 innings! Five straight hits to start the game. That&#8217;s pretty good. -<a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23VinScully&amp;src=hash">#VinScully</a></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Capuano continues to cruise, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the fifth. A whiff of <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/overbly01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Lyle Overbay</a></strong> ends that frame. Cappy blows through the sixth inning as well with another 123 frame. That inning features whiffs of Romine, and Gardner.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The Yankees make a pitching change and take out Phil Hughes in the top of the seventh. He is replaced with <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/warread01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Adam Warren</a></strong>.  Yasiel Puig greets him with an opposite field lead-off home run over the short porch in right field. That’s number five on the year for Puig, and makes it a 6-0 Dodger lead. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Vinny can’t believe it! </span></p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Holy Mackerel, it&#8217;s Puig! He is unbelievable.-<a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23VinScully&amp;src=hash">#VinScully</a></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">The Dodgers remove Capuano after six innings and 84 pitches. Seems risky to me, but they do it anyways. Rookie <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/withrch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Chris Withrow</a></strong> is brought in to pitch the bottom of the seventh. The rookie does his job and tosses a scoreless frame. </span><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Warren remains in the game and retires the Dodgers in the top of the eighth, and Withrow does the same to the Yankees in the bottom of the eighth. We move to the bottom of the ninth with the Dodgers still leading 6-0. In comes <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/leagubr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Brandon League</a></strong> in a low leverage situation. He can’t possibly blow this right? Right?!?!</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;"><strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=almont001zoi&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Zoilo Almonte</a></strong> grounds out. Gardner grounds out for the second out. But League then plunks Jayson Nix with a pitch. Cano pops up for the final out, and the Dodgers win 6-0!</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Capuano was great, Puig is remarkable, Hanley, Gonzo, and Ethier were good. But Vin is amazing! Legendary! The Dodgers come out of the Bronx with a 30-40 record, and now will immediately board a plane to San Diego for a four game series. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Tomorrow night at 7:10 PM <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fifest01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Stephen Fife</a></strong> will draw veteran <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/marquja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Jason Marquis</a></strong>. <p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">I had a nice pregame all written up yesterday, but of course some poorly timed east coast rain ruined that. Yesterday afternoon, the rain washed away the Dodgers/Yankees tilt last night, forcing the two teams to play a rare day/night double-header today. The first game will start at 10:00 AM PT, and will feature Hyun-jin Ryu going up against old friend and former Dodger Hiroki Kuroda. The Yankees were going to have Kuroda start the second game, but swapped him with Phil Hughes who will start game two for the Yankees. The Dodgers will be using Chris Capuano to start the second game against Hughes. Capuano has been on the DL with a sore shoulder, but according to the club is ready to pitch, and will be activated to start the second game of the twin bill. In order to clear room for Cappy, the Dodgers will need to make a roster move. You can bet dollars to donuts, that should be <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/withrch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Chris Withrow</a></strong> being send back down, since he is the only one with options remaining. Not that it should be. We will let you know as soon as the club announces its decision.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">While Ryu has never faced the Yankees, Kuroda has never faced the Dodgers. Kuroda was a Dodger, from 2008-2011, and pitching in the postseason for the Dodgers in 2008, and 2009. Kuroda was one of my favorite Dodgers, so seeing him tonight will be a bit tough to handle for myself. It’s kind of sad in a way. Kuroda has again proven why he was one of the most consistent starting pitchers the Dodgers had in recent years. Kuroda has proven that he can pitch well in any environment. Last season in his first year with the Yankees, he posted a 16-11 record, with a solid 3.32 ERA, and 167 whiffs in 219 innings. Kuroda is durable, and has been his usual stingy self in 2013. The 38 year old right hander is 6-5 with a 2.78 ERA. He has 60 whiffs and 19 walks in 87.1 innings of work. Kuroda has pitched in 25 games at Yankee stadium, and is 15-8 with a 2.56 ERA and three shutouts. He has whiffed 128 batters against only 35 walks in 170 innings. Kuroda should have never ever been allowed to leave the Dodgers. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Some of the Dodgers have faced him before from their days in the American League. The current Dodgers are batting .289 (26 for 90) with four home runs versus Kuroda. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/schumsk01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Skip Schumaker</a></strong> is 6 for 14 against Kuroda, so you can bet he’ll be starting, well he starts everyday anyways. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/gonzaad01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Adrian Gonzalez</a></strong> is hitting .344 (11 for 32) with four doubles and three of the four home runs off of Kuroda. <strong><a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/u/uribeju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lasordaslair.com" target="_blank">Juan Uribe</a></strong> has hit a home run against Kuroda as well.</span></p>
<div id="attachment_10081" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 600px"><a href="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/7400734.jpg"><img class="size-large wp-image-10081" title="Hiroki Kuroda" src="http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/75/files/2013/06/7400734-590x426.jpg" alt="" width="590" height="426" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">We miss you Hiroki, please come back to us-Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports</p></div>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">In case you were wondering, Capuano is 0-2 versus the Yankees, and 0-1 at Yankee Stadium. Or I should say the new Yankee Stadium. However Cappy has held the current group of Yankees to a .217 batting average against. Here’s how my </span><a href="http://lasordaslair.com/2013/06/18/start-spreadin-the-news-dodger-blue-in-new-york/"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">pregame looked like yesterday before the rains ruined it.</span></a></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">Game one will start at 10 AM, and televised on KCAL 9. Game two will begin at 4:00 PM PT, and will be televised over at Prime Ticket. There’s about a three hour lag in between games. If you remember, this is the Dodger’s second interleague DH. The Dodgers had a rain out during the Baltimore series back in April, and Ryu pitched in that series as well. The Dodgers won’t stay long though, immediately after the second game, the Dodgers will board a plane and fly to San Diego, for a big four game series from Thursday-Sunday. Strange scheduling huh? Don&#8217;t forget Vin&#8217;s takeover at twitter which will now begin at 4PM because of the rainout. We’ll be back here with two separate game recaps, because two is better than one, right? Get your double dose of Dodger Baseball! Then mosey on over here to get your double dose of Lasorda’s Lair as well. Two recaps for the price of one! You can’t beat that! Go Blue.</span></p>
