If the Dodgers feel like making up ground on the two teams ahead of them in the NL West, whom happen to be their biggest rivals, now is as good a time as any. The Blue Crew currently sit 7 games back of NL West leader San Diego and 3.5 games back of the Wild-Card leading Giants of San Francisco. They’ll have a chance to inflict direct damage on their competitors beginning tonight as they stroll into the bay for a three game set. After that, the Padres head to Chavez Ravine for four.
Tonight won’t exactly be easy. The Dodgers [...]

The Dodgers finally got their bat. Unfortunately, his name is not Prince Fielder, Dan Uggla, Jose Bautista, or Adam Dunn. Ladies and gentleman, meet your new left fielder, Scott Podsednik .
The Dodgers sent minor league catcher Lucas May (Triple A) and pitcher Elisaul Pimentel (low-A) in exchange for the 34 year old speed demon. Before you ask whether they really missed Juan Pierre that badly, it’s worth noting that Podsednik has had a fantastic year for the Royals. Despite the lack of name recognition for the journeyman outfielder, Ned Colletti deserves credit for casting a wide net in his search for [...]
Furcal activated; Sherrill to DL
While Rafael Furcal has been activated from the disabled list, RP George Sherrill has succumbed to injury. Furcal, who has not played since April 27, is in the lineup tonight against the Chicago Cubs. Sherrill, who has been struggling this season, was placed on the 15-day DL with what is believed to be a mild-back strain.
Sherrill has struggled with his mechanics this season, and as a result has a 7.36 ERA through 22 appearances . Sherrill has reported that he’s had discomfort between his shoulder blades, which certainly not good news. For the full report, you can click here.
Andre Either, [...]
After a 1-2 start, the Los Angeles Dodgers head to Florida to take on the 2-1 Marlins on Friday night. I know it’s just April, but the NL West is already looking like a three, maybe four team race. The Dodgers no longer only have the Colorado Rockies to worry about. The San Francisco Giants, and Arizona Diamonbacks could have their sights set on LA’s division crown.
The Dodgers, who lost the opening series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-2, were able to score 18 runs in the first three games of the season. However, their pitching and defense coughed up 17 [...]
The Dodgers made a few moves yesterday, but nothing that will wow any of the fans, or make a world championship look more possible. Both Brad Ausmus and Ronnie Belliard re-signed with the club, and both will probably occupy backup roles with the team.
If there was one guy that it seemed like you could count on in the stretch run last season, it was Vicente Padilla. So it’s good news that the Dodgers have officially signed Padilla to a 1-year deal, which should make him a nice addition to this rotation heading into next season.
We discussed the new deals for James Loney, Hong-Chih Kuo, and George Sherrill yesterday, and today, there’s even more good news coming out of Los Angeles. The Dodgers have landed deals with the remaining players who were eligible for arbitration, and have a few of them locked up for the next few years.
Here’s a nice little update from Dodger land this morning, as three of the top talents on the squad have signed new deals with the team. James Loney, Hong Chih-Kuo, and George Sherrill have all avoided arbitration, which is certainly good news for a team that can’t afford to lose any more top players.
Dodger Arbitration Updates
The main focus the last few days around Dodger-land has been arbitration, and seeing who would and wouldn’t file for arbitration. We got news on some big-time Dodger players yesterday, so let’s take a look at where the Dodgers stand right now in terms of player arbitration.
I apologize for the lack of Dodger talk here lately, as well, the Dodgers haven’t exactly given me a whole lot to work with at this point. If the Dodgers are trying to win the award for “Team to Do the Least in an Off-Season”…..then they’re doing an awesome job of that. Because they are still lost in the shuffle when it comes to teams making moves this off-season.
