Colorado Rains on Dodger’s Parade in Aggravating Loss

What a joke. Whatever momentum the Dodgers had after Tuesday night’s incredible rally was instantly blown in the bottom of the ninth inning by the Dodger’s ineffective and tired bullpen. Keep in mind if it weren’t for Alex Guerrero’s grand slam home run, the Dodgers would have lost three out of four to a last place club. Stupid Coors Field. Coors Field is stupid, and I hate it. Meanwhile Kenley Jansen was missing from the bullpen, and mysteriously unavailable despite only pitching in one game the entire week. We can only pray he isn’t hurt.

The Dodgers had a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth before a carousal of relievers instantly blew it, allowing three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Adam Liberatore, Yimi Garcia, J.P. Howell, followed by the putrid Chris Hatcher. Ironically Hatcher was the only one who could even record a single out on Nolan Areando’s walk-off sacrifice fly that scored DJ LeMahieu to end the game.

Starter Mike Bolsinger was not effective either. He pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out three, and was not involved in the decision. Bolsinger has been great all season, so having a bad start at Coors Field can be expected. His mound opponent right hander Chad Bettis was actually pretty decent. He allowed two runs, (one earned) on five hits. He struck out five and walked three. Neither were involved in the decision.

The Dodgers scored six runs on eleven hits and still lost. Joc Pederson homered again for the fifth straight game. That tied a Dodger rookie record for most consecutive games with a home run. Joc now has 17 on the season, and continues being awesome. Alex Guerrero didn’t homer, but he did have a double, and a walk. The Dodgers scored once in the second inning after falling behind 1-0 to tie up the score. They then scored once in the fifth frame, three runs in the seventh, and one more in the eighth.

The three run rally in the seventh was thanks to three consecutive singles from Pederson, Turner, and Gonzalez. Gonzo’s single was a bloop flare into center that scored Joc. Then Ethier’s two-run single to right gave the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Pederson added his home run in the eighth inning to put the Dodgers ahead 6-4.

Colorado had scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Troy Tulowitzki three-run home run to originally put Colorado up 4-2. Then that ridiculous ninth inning came around. Liberatore had pitched a perfect eighth inning, but was left out to start the ninth. Then McKenry got a lead-off single. Blackmon’s ground-rule double bounced over the wall. Then Yimi Garcia was brought in, and he immediately walked LeMahieu to load the bases. Then he walked Tulo which forced in a run. Garcia is hooked, and in comes J.P. Howell. With Cargo at the plate, him and Grandal get crossed up, and the passed ball allows the tying run to score.

Howell is ordered to intentionally walk Cargo which reloads the bases. Then Chris Hatcher is brought in and the Dodgers do that chorus line again of five infielders on the right side. Bringing in Ethier as an infielder. Not like that would have worked anyways. Finally Arenado’s scoring fly ball to left field scored the winning run. Chris Heisey’s throw was late, and the Dodgers lose 7-6.

Don Mattingly was very tight lipped after the game as to why Kenley was not available. According to J.P. Hoornstra, Kenley was not feeling well and chose not to speak to anyone. Something seems fishy about all of this though. Is Kenley hurt again? I don’t know, but I guess we’ll find out more tomorrow. The dejected Dodgers will return home to start a seven game home stand. They’ll open it with four games against the Cardinals. Oh boy.
