According to numberFire, Adrian Gonzalez is The Sixth Best “nerd” in MLB
By Scott Andes
Ever wonder just how important Adrian Gonzalez is to the Dodgers? In case you were wondering, he is their best hitter, and without him they would be totally screwed. He’s on his way towards a monster season. You know the kind of season that could put him on par to compete for the NL MVP award.
numberFire and JJ Zachariason took a look at the most prolific hitters so far this season. JJ uses an interesting stat called “nerd” No, I am not talking about the Dodger’s front office. The stat nerd, stands for “Number of runs contributed over a league average batter per game”. According to JJ that number is 27 plate appearances. JJ provides the top ten in all of MLB.
Rank | Player | nERD |
1 | Bryce Harper (RF/CF, WSH) | 6.69 |
2 | Nelson Cruz (RF/LF, SEA) | 5.16 |
3 | Paul Goldschmidt (1B, ARI) | 4.82 |
4 | Prince Fielder (1B, TEX) | 4.8 |
5 | Anthony Rizzo (1B, CHC) | 4.59 |
6 | Adrian Gonzalez (1B, LAD) | 4.52 |
7 | Josh Donaldson (3B, TOR) | 4.26 |
8 | Jason Kipnis (2B, CLE) | 4.07 |
9 | Miguel Cabrera (1B/3B, DET) | 3.99 |
10 | Lucas Duda (1B, NYM) | 3.74 |
Not surprising Bryce Harper, and Nelson Cruz top the list. However Gonzo comes in at number 6. Gonzalez is contributing 4.52 runs per average game. With Yasiel Puig still out with a strained hamstring, and Carl Crawford still missing, Gonzo is the best, and most productive hitter on the Dodgers. This table proves just how important he is to the club.
