Bolsinger Counters Kennedy For Game 2

The Dodgers finally scored a run in Friday evening’s 2-1 win over San Diego, in the opening game of the home stand. The Dodgers tied the Los Angeles record for consecutive innings without a run at 35, before Andre Ethier’s RBI double brought home Justin Turner. It was a strange sight seeing a Dodger actually touch home plate. It was almost foreign. I made sure to thoroughly enjoy it since we might not see much of that in the coming weeks.

It was Joc Pederson’s eighth inning solo home run of of Benoit that put the Dodgers ahead for good last night. It’s funny because the club had only lost three in a row, but it seemed like ten in a row because they couldn’t score in any of those games.

Ian Kennedy-2-3 vs. Mike Bolsinger-2-0

Game Time – 7:10 PM

Tonight the Dodgers will give the ball to Mike Bolsinger. San Diego will counter with Ian Kennedy. This is Bolsinger’s fourth start for the Dodgers, and he is 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched. Last week on May 17, he pitched six shutout innings against Colorado to win 1-0. He allowed just three hits and struck out six in the win. He’s made just one start against San Diego before. In that start he lost, but threw six innings allowing two earned runs on three hits with six whiffs and four walks. That start was at Petco Park when he was with Arizona.

Only four current Padres have ever faced Bolsinger before. These Padres are 2 for 7 (.286) with two RBI in 10 plate appearances against Bolsinger.

  • The Dodgers will be facing an old foe. Right hander Ian Kennedy will take the mound for the Padres. This year Kennedy has been roughed up a bit. He is 2-3 with a 6.75 ERA in six starts. He’s allowed 31 hits in 29.1 innings pitched and struck out 26. He has also allowed eight home runs, and 12 walks. The home runs have really hurt him this year.

He’s faced the Dodgers once this season back on April 25, which was an 11-8 loss. In that start he gave up eight earned runs on eight hits across 4.1 innings. During his career he is 5-8 with a 4.58 ERA in 18 starts against the Dodgers. At Dodger Stadium, he is 2-4 with a 3.83 ERA in nine career starts.

The Dodgers are batting .268 (49 for 183) with 8 home runs, and 24 RBI in 207b plate appearances. The Dodgers have a .799 OPS against Kennedy. Andre Ethier is batting .368 (13 for 36) with three doubles, three home runs and seven runs batted in versus Kennedy. Adrian Gonzalez has hit three home runs as well. Justin Turner is 6 for 11 with three doubles.

The Dodgers will be without starting catcher Yasmani Grandal, after he was hit in the head by Yangervis Solarte’s backswing in the third inning. Then he was hit in the head again by Matt Kemp’s foul pop in the fourth frame. He had to come out of the game in the fifth inning, and we are still uncertain if he has a concussion or not. If he does, the Dodgers can place him on the 7-day DL. If they do that, they would have to call up Austin Barnes from Oklahoma City. A.J. Ellis will be catching tonight. The injuries continue to mount for the Dodgers as usual. I expect for most of the roster to be on the disabled list by mid June.

The Dodgers are 25-16 and maintain their slim 1.5 game lead in the NL West over the Giants. The boys in blue are 18-5 at home. The Giants continue their series against the Rockies in Colorado. The Giants have also won seven in a row.

Jason will have the recap later tonight after the game. So hop on over here once the game is over if you can. If the Dodgers win tonight, they would win their seventh consecutive series over San Diego. Let’s hope their dominance over the Padres continues tonight. Of course scoring more than one or two runs would help.

    Go Blue!
