Haven’t Scored Since Sunday: Dodgers Winless in Frisco
The Dodgers haven’t scored a run since the fourth inning in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Colorado. The Giants shut out the Dodgers 2-0 on Tuesday night at AT&T Park, and the Dodgers have lost all four games up in San Francisco so far this season. It was a bad luck loss for Carlos Frias who continues to impress me with his pitching after the Dodgers gave him absolutely no run support.
Brett Anderson (2-1, 3.50) vs. Tim Lincecum (3-2, 2.43)
There was 11 men left on base on Tuesday, and the Dodgers offense has been quiet of late. Even though I didn’t ever expect this amazing team to sustain such an offensive onslaught without some inevitable quiet spells. You can call it a slump, but perhaps we have been spoiled with all those homeruns. Which by the way, the Dodgers are no longer in first place in the MLB in homeruns any longer. The Houston Astros have now hit 60 homeruns (yes, the Astros), and the Dodgers are in second with 54 homeruns.
Not only was the news of Hyun-jin Ryu‘s probable season-ending shoulder surgery disheartening (I will share my thoughts on that huge loss soon), but the irony was that Carlos Frias pitched very well but received no run support. Brett Anderson will need to stay healthy, and the Dodgers will need to acquire another starting pitcher at some point.

Anderson will be making his eighth start of the season in Blue, and the Dodgers would like to see him make at least 30 starts this season if possible. The Dodgers lost to the Rockies in his last start, a no-decision, but the lefty struck out eight batters over 5 1/3 innings while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Anderson has already made two starts against the Giants this season back in April, and he didn’t win either of them (although the Dodgers did win the game at Dodger Stadium on April 27th).
The 27-year old southpaw is winless against the Giants (0-3) in his career with a 6.10 ERA in 5 career starts. The pesky leadoff hitter Nori Aoki has 4 hits and 2 RBI in 6 at bats versus Anderson.
Old foe Tim Lincecum will be going to the mound for the Giants. The Dodgers are 1-1 against Lincecum this season. At home, Lincecum has been dominant this year so far. He is 3-1 with a 1.44 ERA in 4 home starts. Overall, Lincecum is 10-8 with a 3.45 in 28 career games (26 starts) against the Dodgers.
In Timmy’s last start, the Giants lost to the Reds. The Freak allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and a season-high 5 walks in 4 2/3 innings. The 30-year old veteran had a 18 consecutive scoreless inning streak snapped in the game.
Brett Anderson has pitched well in his last two rainy day starts, so hopefully he is just as sharp under the foggy and cold skies by the Bay. The Dodgers will try to finally notch a victory at AT&T Park. They are 69-70 at the expansive and cold ball park after Tuesday’s loss.
The Giants are still 3 1/2 games back, but with a series win or *gasp* sweep against the Dodgers, they can pull closer to the top. The Dodgers, who have been incredible powerhouses at home this season, are not as impressive on the road this year (they are 7-9 on the road). Losses are always frustrating, but it is two-fold aggravating when the pumpkin colored foes are the victors.
