Dodgers To Honor ’55 And ’65 WS Championship Teams Tonight

facebooktwitterreddit

In tonight’s pregame festivities, the Los Angeles Dodgers will honor two past World Series championship teams: the 1955 club, who won the first – and sadly, only – World Series Championship for Brooklyn, and the 1965 World Series Champions. As a bonus, the Dodgers old-timers will play a game at 4 p.m.

Five members of the 1955 team will be present – Sandy Koufax, Tommy Lasorda, Don Newcombe, Ed Roebuck and Roger Craig.

Out of respect to his contribution to the championship, I will politely clap for Roger Craig, but a part of me will also be giving a hearty BOOOO!!! to the former manager of the hated Giants.

Representing the 1965 team will be Koufax (who was also a member of the 1963 WS champs), Tommy Davis, Maury Wills, Wally Moon, Ron Perranoski, Wes Parker, Jeff Torborg, Ron Fairly, Jim Lefebvre, Al Ferrara and Lou Johnson

  • The Dodgers are also giving out 1965 World Series Championship ring replicas to the fans. After seeing my friend’s L.A. Kings Stanley Cup Championship replica ring, I’ll say the Dodgers have quite an act to follow, as that ring is very nice, indeed.

While that part of the pregame festivities will be fun, I’m really looking forward to the Old-Timers Game – although I must admit to having a bittersweet feeling about it all, because many players who I cheered for over the years have now joined the old-timers’ roster, which makes me feel just a bit older today.

Among the scheduled old-timers are: Fernando, Pedro Guerrero (World Series MVP!), Mickey Hatcher, Steve Sax, Tim Wallach, Steve Yeager, Rick Honeycutt, Eric Gagne (can’t wait for him to be called out the bullpen once again), Charlie Hough, Manny Mota, Shawn Green, Steve Finley, Ron Cey and Steve Garvey.

How I wish Nomo would have been flown in for the game!

On a personal note, I’ll be at the game tonight, sitting at Field Level, donning my old Gagne “Game Over” shirt, and live-tweeting Old-Timers Game highlights.

After all that, Zack Grienke will take the mound to continue his Cy Young-bound season.

    Play Ball!
