Los Angeles Dodgers Game Recaps: Dodgers Rally To Take Series Over Snakes

The Dodgers defeated the Snakes on Saturday night 6-4 using a typical 2015 formula of strong offense, and solid relief pitching. The win gives the Dodgers their first series win over the snakes, and twelve wins in their first fourteen home games this year.

The Dodgers had to overcome and outscore a lousy Scott Baker start. Baker may have been decent in his last start at San Diego, but he looked clueless on the mound against Arizona Saturday night. The veteran lasted just four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two strikeouts. His mound opponent Jeremy Hellickson wasn’t very good as well. He allowed three runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. He had six strikeouts and walked one. Neither starter was involved in the decision. Please get better soon Ryu.

Both clubs scored twice in the first inning, and the Dbacks scored a run in the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Dodgers rallied to score and tie up the game in the bottom of the third. The Snakes slithered across a run in the fourth to go up 4-3. The Dodgers rallied again for two runs in the seventh, and one more in the eighth.

The Dodger’s nemesis Paul Goldschmidt bested them again with yet another monstrous homer in the first. The Dodgers tied it in the second, thanks to a solo home run from Justin Turner, followed by a single from Howie Kendrick, and an RBI double from Adrian Gonzalez.

The Snakes took back the lead in the second on an RBI flare to center from Inciarte. It could have been worse, had Scott Van Slyke not thrown out Cliff Pennington trying to extend his single to a double. The Dodgers tied the score in the bottom of the third. Turner walked, and advanced to second on a grounder. Scott Van Slyke’s single to center scored Turner to give the Dodgers their third run. Aaron Hill homered over the center field wall to lead-off the top of the fourth. That bomb put Arizona up 4-3.

The Dodgers would rally with two runs in the seventh. With two outs, Joc Pederson’s solo blast tied the score. The Dodgers then added another run when Turner doubled to right, and Kendrick’s ground ball single to shallow right field scored Turner to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. The Dodgers added one more insurance run in the eighth with three consecutive singles from Grandal, Hernandez, and Rollins.

Grandal had three hits, and Kendrick, and Turner each had two. The Dodgers bullpen again came through with solid work. Juan Nicasio pitched three scoreless innings for the win. Yimi Garcia, and Chris Hatcher each followed with a scoreless frame in the Dodger’s 6-4 win.

The last out of the game was especially bizarre. With Chris Hatcher on the mound, Hill flied to right for the first out. Jordan Pacheco singled. Pennington flied out to Pederson for the second out. Then Pinch-hitter David Peralta’s grounder up the middle hits Pacheco and that ends the game. I can’t remember the last time a game ended on a base runner hit by a batted ball.

The Dodgers are now 15-8 and maintain their three game lead over San Diego. The Boys in Blue will go for the sweep Sunday afternoon. The series finale will feature another battle of the Andersons, with Chase countering the Dodger’s Brett at 1:10 PM.
