Dodgers Reportedly Have Released Dustin McGowan

There is no official word from the club as of yet, but we are hearing through the grapevine, that the club has cut ties with reliever Dustin McGowan. (The word has just come in, the club has officially released McGowan, as I expected)

According to Ken Gurnick the Dodgers have told McGowan that he will not be making the club. The Dodgers signed the 33-year old right hander back on February 23, and he has not looked impressive. McGowan has allowed six earned runs on 12 hits in 8 innings pitched this spring. In seven games he’s posted a 6.75 ERA and struck out five. His hits per nine innings rate has ballooned to 13.5.

Last year McGowan pitched in 53 games for the Blue Jays, posting a 4.17 ERA, in 82 innings pitched. He started eight games as well, and struck out 61 while walking 33. Overall McGowan is 25-27 with a 4.57 ERA/4.27 FIP in 158 big league games. He has made 68 career starts, and has struck out 392 batters In 482 innings pitched.

The Dodgers have not announced a move for him yet, but it appears they may end up releasing the right hander from his 507,500 dollar contract, although McGowan did have a one million dollar bonus coming to him if he made the opening day roster. With McGowan being cut, and Mike Adams heading to the minors, that leaves 12 relievers left to battle for seven spots on the opening day roster.
