Dodgers Acquire Infielder Elliot Johnson From Rangers For Cash

The Dodgers have picked up more infield depth, as they have acquired infielder Elliot Johnson from the Rangers for cash considerations, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Here’s another guy from that 2013 NLDS. Johnson was a Brave at the time, and we saw a lot of him in that playoff series. Now here he is as a Dodger. He won’t ever see any time in Los Angeles, but you know what they say, Oklahoma City needs players too.

Johnson is a 31-year old switch-hitting infielder that has major league experience at shortstop, second base, and third base across five major league seasons. He also can play the outfield. Johnson unfortunately can’t hit a lick, barely hitting above the Mendoza line in the majority of his Big League action.

Overall, Johnson has a career .215/.269/.316 slash line with 12 major league home runs, and a .586 OPS in 826 plate appearances. Johnson has spent time with Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Atlanta, and was with the Indians last season. He appeared in just seven games last year for Cleveland. He had signed with Texas earlier this spring.

Johnson is a Safford, Arizona native, and went to high school at Thatcher, Arizona. He was originally signed by the Rays as an amateur free agent in 2002.
