Scott Van Slyke Photobombs My Picture With Yasiel Puig

It’s been a whirlwind of activity here at Camelback Ranch on Friday afternoon. I arrived just in time to see Zack Greinke‘s bullpen session with Don Mattingly and Rick Honeycutt (video to come). Alex Guerrero, Yasiel Puig and A.J. Ellis were working in the batting cages, and many of the players were out in the backfield taking some batting practice before the 7:05 p.m. game.

I will have a lot of video and photos to share with you from this weekend, but for now I wanted to share with you a very special moment I had with Yasiel Puig…and Scott Van Slyke.

Yasiel Puig was finishing up some batting practice, and as he was leaving the field I asked if he would take a photo with me (I had my iPhone prepared on selfie mode). Perhaps it was the almost desperate cries of ¡por favor! or maybe it’s just the fact that he’s a really nice guy. He took quite a few photos and signed some autographs for fans on his way back to the clubhouse.

After I took the photo, I noticed that there was a certain outfielder photobombing my picture with Puig! Scott Van Slyke was peeking over Puig’s shoulder, and I caught the hilarious moment for digital prosperity. You can’t make this stuff up.

Then once Puig left the field, the fans went into a M.V.P. chant as Clayton Kershaw walked across the dirt path to the clubhouse. Kershaw stopped to sign autographs as well including one fan’s giant Kershaw head on a stick. That’s one way to get his attention! Jimmy Rollins signed for the longest, and his charismatic personality really shined as he riled the lined up crowd while they cheered “Jimmy! Jimmy!

Spring Training is such a fun experience for fans who have the opportunity to get close to some of their favorite players in a more casual (and may I add extremely hot) atmosphere. I’ve only been at Camelback Ranch for a couple of hours, and I feel like I am a kid all over again.
