Another Mark Ellis Memory

Throughout the week we’ll be paying tribute to former Dodger second baseman Mark Ellis, who announced his retirement from playing on Wednesday. Mark Ellis was a solid second baseman, and a major contributor during the Dodger’s 2013 playoff run.

Stacie took a great look back on some of Mark Ellis’s greatest moments tallied as a Dodger in the two years he wore Dodger Blue. Here’s one that she missed though. During the summer of joy better known as the 42-8 run of the 2013 season, the Dodgers were playing the Yankees at home for a two game series in late July.

This was the opening game of that two game set, as the Dodgers defeated the Yankees 3-2. Earlier in the game, Zack Greinke out-dueled veteran Andy Pettite. Juan Uribe homered into the lodge section, and Hanley Ramirez drove in a run, and made a good catch.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Mark Ellis stepped up to the plate with two outs, and Andre Ethier at second base. With the count 3-1, he ripped a single off of Shawn Kelley, over shortstop into shallow left field to score Ethier. The Dodgers won in walk-off style 3-2!
