Kenley Jansen Undergoes Foot Surgery, Out 8-12 Weeks

File this under annoying. We have our first injury of the 2015 season and camp hasn’t even broke yet. Apparently closer Kenley Jansen had to have foot surgery to remove a growth from a bone in his left foot. The closer felt discomfort while running last week. The problem (In the fifth metatarsal) was discovered after Kenley had an x-ray, MRI and a CT scan. That’s what I call the injury detection trifecta. Jon Weisman reported the injury and surgical procedure on his Dodger Insider site.

Kenley will have to use crutches and wear a walking boot before he can even consider pitching, or walking normally. Joy! Jansen should be back sometime around late April or early May, so this isn’t the end of the world. It’s just supremely irritating. Of course the litany of injuries that befall our beloved Dodgers is not anything new to us.

This confirms reports that the Dodgers are looking for another reliever. With Jansen sidelined, the closer role is up for grabs. Will it be J.P. Howell? Will it be Joel Peralta? Will it be Chris Hatcher? Or will it be someone new? I would guess it would probably be J.P. Howell. Until he comes down with a terminal case of crabs or something.

In any event, expect for the Dodgers to acquire another reliever in the coming days. Although who, and from where, I have no idea. I am irritated already.
