Swingman Paul Maholm Signs With Reds

Here’s some quick news on Super Bowl Sunday about another former Dodger inking with another club. Right hander Paul Maholm has signed with the Reds. C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati enquirer reported on Sunday morning.
The deal is of the minor league variety with an invitation to spring training. The 32-year old Maholm pitched with the Dodgers in 2014 before tearing the ACL in his right knee while covering first base during a game at Dodger Stadium in August.

Maholm was 1-5 with a 4.84 ERA in 30 games pitched for the Dodgers last season he started eight games, and posted an FIP of 4.96 and a 1.5 WHIP. Maholm posted career worsts in strikeouts per nine (4.6), walks per nine (3.6), and hits per nine (10.4) while whiffing 35 and walking 28 in a little over 70 innings pitched.

Apparently Maholm will compete for a spot in the Red’s starting rotation in spring training. If he impresses the club, they may slot him into a similar swingman type role that he had with the Dodgers.
Maholm says his knee is feeling great, and has reported that he will be ready for spring training. Maholm is a ten-year MLB veteran with a 77-100 record, and a 4.30 ERA in 273 games pitched. This will be Maholm’s fifth major league club.
