Dodgers Out Of Lester Sweepstakes

So the Dodgers are not in on Jon Lester, apparently. More of this and other predictable news as we head into the nitty gritty of the winter meetings. In case you haven’t heard, the Dodgers are not signing Jon Lester. As if they ever were going to. Maybe if Lester was ok with signing a contract for about 250 dollars, then the Dodger brain trust would be on board.

Free agent starting pitcher Jon Lester, has narrowed down his two clubs to the Red Sox, and the Cubs. Apparently the Dodgers, and the Giants are both out of the running. Despite both clubs reportedly making offers to Lester.

All four teams have made offers. I’m pretty sure the Dodger’s offer was the cheapest of the four. I’m just following the new front office’s trend of not spending even one dollar to improve the club.

Lester is the 30-year old left hander that was traded to the Oakland A’s during last summer’s trade deadline, and is considered the top pitcher on the market. Lester was 6-4 with a 2.34 ERA in 76.2 innings pitched for Oakland down the stretch last season. He whiffed 71 and walked just 16 while posting a 1.070 WHIP for Oakland. All total, Lester was 16-11 with a 2.48 ERA and 220 strikeouts in just over 219 frames in 2014.

There has been a raucous bidding war going on for Lester’s services over the last couple of weeks. The Dodgers were never really in on him anyways. Reports suggested that the offers made to Lester from the four clubs were somewhere around the 150 million dollar range. And we all know the new front office is far too cheap to spend that kind of money.

So Lester called the Giants (reportedly) and told them that he would not be signing with them, (hehehehehe!), and I am assuming made the same call to the Dodgers. I still think he’ll end up singing with the Red Sox, but the Cubs are considered to be the front runners. yes the Cubs, you read correctly. Remember he was drafted by the Red Sox, and pitched seven years in Boston.

Well, at least the Giants aren’t signing him. Silver linings guys.
