Dodgers Trade For Outfielder Kyle Jensen

As some of you have probably already heard, the Dodgers actually made a trade on Monday afternoon. Get ready for this. Brace yourself. This is a big one. The Dodgers traded for…..drum roll please……Minor League slugger Kyle Jensen! Please hold the applause until after you are done reading.
All joking aside here, the Dodgers acquired the minor league outfielder by trading some cash and or a player to be named later to the Miami Marlins for first baseman/outfielder Kyle Jensen. The club announced on Monday.

The 26-year old outfielder was drafted by the Marlins in the 12th round of the 2009 amateur draft. Jensen is a Southern California native originally from Walnut Creek, California. Jensen attended St Mary’s high school in Stockton, and also graduated from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California.

Jensen has not seen any big league action yet, but could be poised to bust out anytime soon. He put up solid numbers for the New Orleans Zephyrs of the Pacific Coast League last season. At New Orleans, Jensen batted .260, posting a slash line of .260/.331/.481 with 27 home runs, and 92 runs batted in while playing in 133 games. Jensen posted an .812 OPS in 556 plate appearances. Jensen has hit 128 career minor league home runs in 705 games. He has a .262 career average in the minors.
Jensen is primarily a corner outfielder, but has some experience playing at first base. Last year Jensen played 68 games in right field, 33 in left, and 16 at first base. He’s seen more time in right field then in left.
I asked Eshan Kassim of MarlinManiac to tell me a little bit about Jensen. I was told that Jensen is a good power hitter, who strikes out a lot, and can play some first base. Eshan called him a decent bench option. After all Jensen did strike out 147 times last season, while receiving just 48 free passes.
Well there you have it. That’s the report on Kyle Jensen. I would assume he’ll be assigned to triple-A Oklahoma City, but the Dodgers will probably give him a look in spring training. You know what they say, Oklahoma City needs players too.
