Fansided Mock Winter Meetings Kicks Off

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to become the GM of your favorite ball club? That would be the Dodgers of course. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to build a Baseball team’s roster from the ground up? Finally, have you ever thought about what the duties of a GM are like during the hot stove season?

Fansided MLB is attempting to answer just that and more by holding a faux (mock) winter meetings from November 17-24. This will all coincide with the real winter meetings being held from December 7-11 at San Diego. Sites from all 30 MLB clubs will choose a representative from their staffs to act as a general manager in this experiment. All 30 MLB clubs will be represented in this simulation, with myself acting as general manager of the Dodgers. So you can easily differentiate between actual news, and news from our mock meetings, I’ll be tagging these posts with the tag of Simulation.

Each club’s GM is responsible for building their respective imaginary rosters, with trades, free agent signings, and non-tendering of contracts being recorded. At the end of the day when our simulations are over we can see who built the best roster, and how it compares with how our club really did.

The great part about all of this is I get to see a little glimpse into what it may be like to really be a general manager of a Major League Baseball club. I’ve already been at this a few days now, and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it seems. It’s kind of tricky.

Another great thing is that you can roast me for making stupid moves, just like you did with Ned Colletti, and hopefully will do Farhan Zaidi. Or you can roast me for making moves you think are foolish. Or roast me for not making what you feel are the right moves. Or roast me for trading away too many good young prospects. Then you can tweet about firing me, and change the FireColletti hast tag to a FireScott hash tag. I can’t wait.

With that in mind, my main objective is to improve upon three main areas of the Dodger’s roster, without spending a lot of money. Remember we are trying to slim down payroll, right? Wink, Wink. The areas I think need to be addressed are, Catching, relief pitching, and shortstop. Those are the areas I think need the most attention. Overall, the Dodgers need a catcher, shortstop, starting pitcher, and several middle relievers.

I’ve already made two trades that may come as a surprise. I’ve traded away a very popular Dodger, and I know some of you aren’t going to like it. Tough cookies, I say. I did it with the best interests of the club at heart. I feel like these trades are going to strengthen the club going forward.

I’ll break the news about the trades I made on Tuesday. I haven’t signed anyone yet. But I can’t wait to flex my financial muscles. In the meantime, let’s hope the Dodgers actually start making some deals, and stop sitting on their hands. And no, trading for Kyle Jensen does not constitute as making a move.
