Scott Schebler Impressing in The Arizona Fall League

Up and coming outfielder Scott Schebler is certainly impressing everyone with his strong performance for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League. On Wednesday Schebler got to show off his power and plate discipline against the Salt River Rafters, who are the AFL’s best club. In that game Schebler had two great at-bats against Mark Appel, going 2 for 4 on the day with a home run, walk, and single.
Schebler is a 24-year old left handed hitter originally from Cedar Rapids Iowa. The Dodgers drafted him in the 26 round of the 2010 amateur draft. Schebler has worked his way up from the rookie League Dodger team he played on from 2010-2011, to the Ogden Raptors, and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, and finally getting a promotion to the Double-AA Chattanooga Lookouts in 2014.
Schebler played in1 35 games for the Lookouts, slashing a line of .280/.365/.556 with 28 home runs, 73 runs batted in, and 14 triples in 489 plate appearances. Schebler registered a .921 OPS with the Lookouts, and was one of the most solid hitters in the Southern League all season. He was selected as a midseason Southern League all-star for his solid hitting.
In the game Wednesday against Salt River, Schebler took phenom, and top prospect pitcher Mark Appel deep for a second inning home run. Schebler blasted the 3-1 fastball over the right center field wall. Schebler then drew a five pitch walk in the fourth inning which was also against Appel.
Then the Iowa native collected an opposite field single against left hander Edgar Olmos in the sixth inning. Schebler is now batting .310 (26 for 84) for the Desert Dogs, with five home runs, and 13 runs batted in, with a .352 OBP in 23 games. The Desert Dogs beat the Rafters on Wednesday by a final score of 5-4. The Desert Dogs are currently in third place in the Arizona Fall League Western division with a 14-15-2 record. They are currently one game behind the Surprise Saguaros, and the Peoria Javelinas who are both tied for first place.
The Salt River Rafters are in first place in the AFL’s Eastern division. They have a 17-11-4 record and are 2.5 games ahead of the second place Mesa Solar Sox. If Schebler’s star continues to rise, he could make the Dodger’s outfield situation even more complicated.
