2014 Fall Stars Game Features Corey Seager

The ninth annual Fall Stars Game will be played this Saturday, November 1st in Arizona. No. 1 prospect Byron Buxton was to be among the selected group of up and coming prospects playing in the All-Star Game for the Arizona Fall League this year, but he dislocated his left middle finger during Monday’s Arizona Fall League game between the Mesa Solar Sox and the Salt River Rafters.

Even though it is unlikely Buxton plays in the Fall Stars game on Saturday, Dodger fans can tune in to watch top prospect Corey Seager.

The game will be televised at 5 p.m. on MLB Network and will be streamed live on MLB.com from Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Corey Seager will play for the West Team, and will be the only representative from the Dodgers’ organization. Last year both Corey Seager and Yimi Garcia played in the Fall Stars Game, and Garcia made his MLB debut for the Dodgers September 1st.

Corey Seager is ranked the No. 13 overall prospect by MLB.com. The big left-handed hitting shortstop is batting .268 over 14 games so far for the Glendale Desert Dogs this fall. The 20-year old hit a combined .349 with 20 homeruns and 97 RBIs between time in Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chattanooga this past season.

Seager will likely start 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the new home of the Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers. The first-round draft pick (18th overall) for the Dodgers in 2012 has played primarily shortstop since he began his professional career in Ogden.

Ned Colletti has said that Seager will stay at shortstop, but it will be interesting to see if Andrew Friedman and his new general manager choose to shift Corey over to third base sooner. Seager has only played third base in one game for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2013.

With a possible September call up in 2015, I project Corey Seager to make his Dodger debut sometime in 2016.
