The Dodgers are reporting that third base coach Lorenzo Bundy will be returning in 2015. So far this marks the first announcement of any kind that any of manager Don Mattingly’s coaching staff will be coming back for the 2015 season. Most of Don Mattingly’s crew has remained intact for the majority of his regime, since his first season as manager in 2011. But the Dodger’s brass have shown they are willing to fire anyone of Mattingly’s coaches should they deem them as useless, or expendable.

Last winter the Dodgers did fire Mattingly’s bench coach and best buddy Trey Hillman, who was once a manager for the Royals. Hillman was replaced by then third base coach Tim Wallach, and Bundy was promoted from manager of the triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, to third base coach for the big club. In Bundy’s first season as Dodger third base coach, he was able to establish himself as a major driving force for base running shenanigans.

Bundy followed in the Wallach tradition of waiving every single runner in regardless of the runner’s speed, or the outfielder’s throwing arm. This resulted in many many tootblans throughout the season. Bundy’s ability to imitate helicopters was a huge factor in the Dodgers leading the National League with 82 confirmed Tootblans. It looks like Bundy will be back again to ensure the Dodgers top that record breaking Tootblan pace in 2015.

Bundy is 54 years old and in his seventh season with the Dodger’s organization. Bundy had managed for 12 seasons in the minor leagues, and worked as a coach with three other major league clubs. Bundy has also managed in the Mexican Winter leagues as well.
