Dan Haren Undergoes Arthroscopic Surgery on His Non-Throwing Shoulder

Despite a huge mid-season slump, right handed veteran starting pitcher Dan Haren still had a pretty decent year. I know, you may disagree, but it’s true. Haren finished the season with a 13-11 record in 32 starts and a 4.02 ERA in 186 frames. Haren whiffed 145 while walking 36 and allowing 8.9 hits per nine innings pitched. He wasn’t that bad, and at times was pretty reliable.

The Dodgers announced on Wednesday that Haren had arthroscopic surgery on his non throwing shoulder, (left shoulder) to repair his A/C shoulder joint. Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the procedure to clean out bursitis in the joint where the collarbone meets the top of the shoulder. The Dodgers expect the 34-year old pitcher to be ready by spring training.

Haren signed a one-year ten million dollar contract with the Dodgers last winter, and despite battling slumps and a sore back, finished strong by posting a 2-1 record and 2.70 ERA in the month of September. Haren finished the second half with a 3.68 ERA in 73.1 innings pitched.

Haren has a ten million dollar player option that vested when Haren reached 180 innings, but he has not decided whether he will exercise it or not.

But one thing we do know, is that Haren will no longer eat seafood, according to his twitter account. Haren will be entering his thirteenth major league season in 2015.
