Dodgers Place Hanley On DL With Oblique Strain, Darwin Barney Called Up

And so it begun. Mark it down today guys. On this date of August 10, of 2014, the Dodgers finally placed Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day DL. The reported injury is a strained right oblique. Hanley originally felt something in his right side while taking batting practice before Saturday’s game. According to reports, I don’t think he said anything to anyone.

Of course players not telling management about an injury never goes well, does it? Hanley then really aggravated it during that check-swing in the first inning of Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Brewers at Miller Park. Now we are all aggravated. So after giving Hanley an MRI, they discovered it was a right oblique strain. Normally this type of injury takes an entire month to heal.

So the Dodgers called up Darwin Barney to replace him on the roster. Apparently they were going to call-up Erisbel Arruebarrena, but he complained about not wanting to play in early morning games. Or something like that. So poo on him I guess. If he’s going to have a terrible attitude then we don’t need or want him. Don Mattingly does not put up with that type of behavior.

Hanley was having another productive MVP type season in 2014. Despite missing 24 games because of various rustiness, this is his first DL stint of the season. Hanley was batting .277 with a .367 OBP, 12 home runs, and 58 RBI in 406 plate appearances. Hanley has played in 100 games this season, and has an .822 OPS.

Barney is batting .230 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 217 plate appearances this season. Barney has played 72 games this season, all at second base. Barney hasn’t played shortstop since 2012, and has just 19 career MLB games played at the position.
