Beating the Dbacks never gets old I tell ya. It was a sweltering Friday evening in Phoenix with the roof open. However the only thing really blazing hot were the Dodger bats. The Boys in Blue took advantage of a downtrodden Arizona club by beating the daylights out of them. The Dodgers won by the final score of 7-0. Shutout city!

It seems like the Snakes are the only club the Dodgers can beat consistently this season. After tonight’s win, the Dodgers are 8-1 against the Snakes, and 15-19 against the rest of the league. The Snakes are extremely awful at home. They are now 4-18 at Chase Field this year. Hey, we’ll take the win all the way to the bank.

Birdman Zack Greinke easily disposed of the Arizona hitters, and did some hitting of his own. Greinke tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just five hits, walking two and whiffing six. His mound opponent left hander Wade Miley got taken to school with four earned runs on seven hits through six frames. Greinke now leads the National League with his seven wins. I know, I know, Wins!!!

The Dodger offense finally shined bright tonight. The Dodgers clubbed ten hits, with six of them being for extra bases. Yasiel Puig extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a three for five performance. Puig homered in the third, (his eighth of the year), singled in the seventh, and doubled in the eighth. Puig becomes the first Dodger to have an RBI and extra base hit in seven consecutive games.

Scott Van Slyke had two hits on the night as well. Van Smash has just pulverized poor Miley. He hit a monster home run off the center field high wall in the sixth, and added a double to boot.

EvenGreinke himself had two hits against Miley. The feathered hurler had a single and an RBI double. Hanley had a run scoring double as well. The Dodgers even won a challenge replay in the bottom of the ninth inning on agrounder to first. That’s how this season is going for the Snakes. It’s heavenly. The Dodgers have now won seven straight in Arizona, and eight of their last nine.  Here’s how this one went down…..

The Dodgers get two walks from Miley in the top of the first but, don’t score. Dee Gordon leads-off the game and grounds out. Yasiel Puig fouls out to Goldschmidt, and after Hanley and Gonzo walk, Kemp flies out.

In the bottom of the first, Greinke gets Gerardo Parra to fly out to Van Slyke. Prado singles up the middle. Greinke whiffs Goldschmidt. Montera whiffs as well to end the inning.

Miley walks his third batter in the top of the second, but the Dodgers don’t score. Hill singles to lead-off the bottom of the second. Then A.J. Pollack walks. Chris Owings tries to bunt for a hit, but pops it up right to Uribe for the first out. Left fielder Ender Inciarte grounds into a double play that ends the inning. No score after two.

In the top of the third, after Gordon whiffs, Puig homers into the right field seats. The Dodgers lead 1-0. That extends Puig’s hitting streak to 15 games. Parra reaches up to pick-off Hanley’s deep drive to right. Good play. Gonzo’s chopper to short ends the frame, but the Dodgers get on the board.

Greinke gets into minor trouble in the bottom of the third, but gets out of it. After Miley grounds out, Parra singles. Prado flies out to shallow center. Parra advances to second on a wild pitch. But Greinke whiffs Goldschmidt on a high fastball.

The Dodgers come out swinging in the top of the fourth. Kemp’s line drive is backhanded by Owings. Van Slyke follows with a double down the third base line. Uribe flies to left. A.J. Ellis drives home Van Slyke with a flare single to right. Dodgers lead 2-0! Greinke smacks an opposite field double to score A.J., and the Dodgers lead 3-0! There is no throw home as the Snakes drop the relay.

The hit parade continues. Gordon bloops a single into left. Now here comes Puig. But he grounds into a force. The Dodgers get three though. Greinke breezes through the bottom of the fourth, whiffing Montero and Pollack.

Both pitchers exchange scoreless fifth innings, and in the top of the sixth, Van Slyke leads-off with a monster home run blast to dead center field. It lands above the high wall. Dodgers lead 4-0. In the same innings Greinke picks up his second hit of the game, a single. But that’s all for the Dodgers in the sixth.

Greinke retires Parra and Prado in the bottom of the sixth, but Goldschmidt draws a two-out walk. Montero grounds out to Gordon, and that does it for the Snakes in the sixth.

Randall Delgado relieves Miley in the top of the seventh. The Dodgers continue their hit party. Puig singles and scores on a Hanley double to the gap. There’s  wild pitch that sends Hanley to third, and Gonzo walks. Kemp’s force out scores Gonzo to make it 6-0 Dodgers. In the bottom of the seventh Greinke whiffs Hill. After Pollack singles, Greinke gets Owings to hit into a double play. 6-0 Dodgers after seventh.

The Dodgers breeze into the top of the eighth, and start hitting again. Boy they really love Arizona pitching. There’s a walk to AJ. A whiff to Greinke. A force out, and throwing error on Gordon’s grounder. Puig doubles down the line to score Gordon. Now it’s 7-0 Dodgers. Greinke gets through his last frame in the bottom of the eighth. Inciarte pops out. Pinch-hitter Alfredo Marte singles. But Parra grounds into a sweet 3-6-3 double play. Great stop by Gonzo!

Move to the bottom of the ninth. The Dodgers bring in Brian Wilson to close out the game. He walks Prado, but recovers nicely to whiff Goldschmidt. That’s the third whiff on the night for Goldschmidt. Prado goes to second on defensive indifference. Montero hits a soft grounder to first, but Gonzo and Wilson get their signals crossed. Gonzo thought Wilson was going to cover but instead takes it to the bag himself. The first base umpire originally calls Montero safe. Mattingly comes out to challenge, and the replay shows Gonzo’s foot on the bag before Montero. So the Dodgers win the challenge and Montero is called out. Wilson whiffs Hill for the final out. The Dodgers win!

Thank god we can count on the Snakes for some easy wins this year. Tomorrow will hopefully be another easy win. The Dodgers have just the right man on the hill for that. Ace Clayton Kershaw will head to the hill. Arizona will counter with right hander Chase Anderson Saturday evening at 5:10 PM.

Enjoy your Friday evening everyone!

Go Blue!
