Thanks to Carlos Marmol, the Dodgers pulled out a 11-inning victory after a rollercoaster of a game which saw numerous shaky innings from the Dodgers bullpen blow a four-run lead after Paul Maholm exited after the sixth. The Dodgers finally got a bit of rest last night in Miami, and their offense was good for 16 hits on the night, including an amazing 5 hits from second baseman Dee Gordon.

Dee Gordon, who will garner the Gagne Game Ball for this game, not only collected 5 base hits, but he stole 3 bases, brought in 2 runs, and had 2 RBIs to boot. Gordon also made a couple of impressive plays which flashed his range at second. Yasiel Puig hit a gigantic three-run homerun in the fourth inning, and Carl Crawford came off the bench in the eleventh inning to hit a two-run homerun which eventually gave the Dodgers the win.
Matt Kemp also had three hits on the night, and Juan Uribe, Hanley Ramirez, and Dee Gordon all had RBI singles.
Maholm allowed three runs in his start, but the real problems came for the Dodgers in the seventh once Brian Wilson came in. Wilson looked terrible again after having a couple of promising relief appearances before tonight. Wilson served up the three-run homerun to Ozuna which brought the Fish within one run of the Dodgers. Chris Withrow and Chris Perez, the two Chrises, both had very shaky innings, and Perez allowed the tying run in the ninth inning. Luckily the Marlins brought in Carlos Marmol, whom had already pitched wildly in Game 1 on Friday night. Marmol was up to his usual antics, and Carl Crawford took advantage. Brandon League, who is suddenly not the worst arm in the bullpen now, was able to shut the Fish down in the bottom of the eleventh and secure the win and tie up the series.
Dee Gordon singles to right field to open up the first at Marlins Park. With Yasiel Puig at-bat, Gordon steals his 17th base of the season as he swipes second. Puig chases a Jacob Turner slider, and he goes down on strikes. Hanley Ramirez lines out to former Dodger Reed Johnson in left field, and Gordon is doubled up at second to end the inning.
Giancarlo Stanton singled up the middle with two outs in the home half of the first. Casey McGehee draws a walk. Marcell Ozuna strikes out, and the Fish strand their two runners.
Matt Kemp doubles to left field with one out in the top of the second. Kemp advances to third on a groundout by Andre Ethier. Juan Uribe comes up clutch with a RBI single to right field after going 3-2 against Turner, and the Dodgers lead 1-0. Miguel Olivo strikes out.
In the bottom of the second, Jeff Baker goes deep with one out. The Dodgers lead is very short-lived as the Marlins tie it up 1-1. Maholm

Gordon comes up with his second hit of the game, a one out single to center field in the top of the third. Dee takes second on a Puig groundout. Hanley Ramirez delivers a RBI single, and Gordon scores easily giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. Adrian Gonzalez draws a walk. Kemp strikes out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the third, Adeiny Hechavarria singles with one out. Stanton is out on a broken bat fly ball. McGehee air mails a double to center field. Dre makes a great attempt to leap up and get the ball, and he gets his glove on it, but the run is in. 2-2. Then Dee Gordon makes a spectacular diving stop on a smoked ball hit by Ozuna, and he fires to third base to get McGehee! That saved a hit and a run.
Uribe singles, his second hit of the game, with one out in the top of the fourth. Olivo singles after fouling himself in the privates, and the Dodgers have two men on. Maholm gets the bunt down, and the runners advance to second and third on the sacrifice. Gordon comes up with his third single of the night, a flare to left, and Uribe comes in to score the third Dodger run. Gordon promptly steals second, his 18th stolen base of the year and second of the game. Then Puig crushes a humongous three-run homerun to the upper level seats in center field! Dodgers lead 6-2.
Maholm walks Garrett Jones, the lead-off batter, in the bottom of the fourth. Baker grounds into a double play. Mathis reaches on a fielding error by homerun god Yasiel Puig after the ball bounces out of his glove on a tough play anyhow. Pinch-hitter Donovon Solano singles. Reed Johnson ends the inning by grounding into a force out.
Jacob Turner lasted through 4 innings and allowed 6 runs on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk on 69 pitches.
Kevin Slowey will come out of the Miami bullpen in relief of Turner in the fifth inning. Matt Kemp singles with one out, and he is 2-for-3. The Dodgers end the inning on a strike ’em out ‘throw ’em out play as Dre goes down on strikes and Kemp is caught stealing second.
Stanton doubles with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but that’s all the Fish can muster in the frame.

Moving on to the sixth… Miguel Olivo singles with one out. Maholm successfully gets down another bunt, and Olivo is advanced to second. Gordon collects his fourth hit of the night, and Olivo comes in to score! Dodgers now lead 7-4, and Gordon is now hitting .355.
Jeff Mathis hits a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth. 7-3 Dodgers.
Carter Capps sends the Dodgers down in order in the top of the seventh.
Brian Wilson will come out of the Dodger pen to take over for Maholm in the bottom of the seventh. He hits Hechavarria with a pitch with one out. Wilson walks Stanton. McGehee flies out to Kemp. Then on the eighth pitch to Marcell Ozuna, Wilson serves up a three-run homerun on a crappy slider. It’s now a one-run game, 7-6. Don Mattingly has to bring in J.P. Howell to get the final out of the inning, and he does. Garrett Jones grounds out.
Paul Maholm pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks on 102 pitches.
Capps strikes out Ethier and Uribe in the eighth. Olivo pops out in foul territory, and the Dodgers go down quietly in order.
Chris Withrow is in for the bottom of the eighth, and I’m terrified that the Dodger bullpen won’t be able to hold this one-run lead. Withrow gets the first out, but then he walks Mathis. Thankfully Dee makes a great play to cut down the lead runner at second. Gordon has really flashed some serious range this game. Then up pop the devil. Reed Johnson doubles to center field, and the Marlins have runners at second and third with two outs. With Stanton on deck, Withrow walks Hechavarria. Of course he does. Withrow rears back and strikes out Stanton! Phew!
Brad Hand is in for the top of the ninth for the Marlins. Puig singles to left with two outs. With Hanley at-bat, Puig is thrown by a mile trying to steal second base.

appearances I have seen in recent memory (since last inning). McGeHee arcs a double to the center field gap to lead-off the inning. Ozuna flies out for the first out. Perez walks Jones. Baker singles to right, and luckily it was hit to Puig who bullets the ball back in to the infield. The bases are loaded with one out. Rick Honeycutt goes out to talk to Perez before he faces pinch-hitter Saltalamacchia. Aaaand he walks in the tying run. 7-7. Somehow Perez is able to strike out Christian Yelich, but that is only the second out. After going 3-0 to Derek Dietrich, Perez gets him to fly out to center. We’re heading into extras….again…for the eighth time this season.
Steve Cishek is in for the top of the tenth. Hanley strikes out looking. Gonzo grounds out. Kemp singles. Ethier strikes out for the third time tonight, and we now return to biting our nails for the bottom half of the inning.
The Dodgers are instantly in trouble in the bottom of the tenth after Brandon League comes in. Adeimy Hechavarria singles on a ground ball hit to Gordon. Gordon tries to stop it, but he throws the ball away and commits an error on the play allowing Hechavarria to reach second. They intentionally walk Stanton. McGeHee grounds into a double play, but the winning run advances to third on the play. Ozuna strikes out, and the Dodgers live to see another inning.
Carlos Marmol comes in to pitch the top of the eleventh, and just maybe the Dodgers have a chance against the wild man. Uribe draws a lead-off walk. Olivo is called out on a foul tip, but the replay clearly showed the ball hit the dirt first. Mattingly comes out to argue and ask the umpires to check the ball to see if there is a dirt smudge, but they refuse. More awful umpiring. Then Crawford comes off the bench and belts out a two-run homerun to right field! Wow! He’s been struggling so bad this season, but he redeemed himself a bit with that beautiful homerun, his first of the year. Dodgers take back the lead, 9-7. Gordon legs out an infield single, his fifth hit of the night! He then steals his third base of the night as well. Incredible. Puig and Hanley both strike out, and it will be up to League to get three outs without blowing this game again.
