The Dodgers have activated infielder Carlos Triunfel, and optioned reliever Jose Dominguez back to Albuquerque. I’m assuming the Dodgers did this because Hanley is going to be out a few days with his bruised hand, and the Dodgers are short handed on the bench.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The 24-year old Dominican infielder was originally signed by Seattle as an amateur free agent in 2006. He’s 5’11 and 195, and bats right handed. The Dodgers claimed him off of waivers on April 2. Triunfel has played in 27 MLB games for the Mariners in 2012, and 2013. He batted .227 in 2012, and .136 last year in 47 plate appearances. He has a career .167 average, and has had time at short, third and second. Triunfel was batting .291 at Albuquerque in 17 games. he will wear number 45.

They probably should have called up Alexander Guerrero, but I’m assuming this is only going to be for a few more days. When Clayton Kershaw is ready to be activated if Hanley is all better, I would think they would option Triunfel back down, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Today the Dodgers try to win a series at home, as they take on the Colorado Rockies in the rubber game of the three game set, and the final game of the home stand.

The Dodgers will give the ball to Hyun-jin Ryu, while Colorado will counter with right hander and ground ball expert Jorge De La Rosa.

De La Rosa is 33 years old, and from Monterrey Mexico. This is his seventh season with Colorado, and last year he led the club in wins, with a 16-6 record. His ERA last year was 3.49, and his strikeout to walk ratio was about two and a half.

De La Rosa has gotten off to a poor start this year though. He is 1-3 with a 6.38 ERA in 24 innings pitched. But this year he’s striking out more guys. His whiff per nine rate is 9.4 as he’s whiffed 25 in his 24 innings. He’s allowed just four home runs, and walked 11. His ground ball percentage was 47.3 last year and this year it’s at 55.9.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers are pretty familiar with De La Rosa. He’s never preformed well against the Dodgers. He is 2-8 with a 5.99 ERA against the boys in blue. And at Dodger Stadium he is 0-4. The Dodgers are batting .303 against him with seven home runs. Gonzo is hitting .375 with three long balls, and Kemp is batting .423 off of De La Rosa with three doubles, and three home runs himself. Too bad Hanley can’t play as he is 8 for 21 against him.

The Dodgers will counter with Hyun-jin Ryu. Ryu is off to a fantastic start this year. He is 3-1 with a 2.12 ERA, and has whiffed 28 and walked just 11. He has not allowed a home run this year, and has been pretty dominant overall. Ryu is 1-1 against Colorado with a 3.60 ERA.
