A Look Back At Dodger’s Touching Opening Day Ceremony

The Dodgers had a touching and moving opening day ceremony before Friday’s 8-4 opening day loss to the Giants. It was actually better than the game itself. The club had not officially announced who was throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, but we soon figured out quickly who it was going to be.

It turned out to be none other than our very own living legend Vin Scully. The greatest broadcaster in the history of sports threw out the first pitch to another fellow hall of famer, Sandy Koufax. Scully is entering his 65th season as the voice of the Dodgers.

Our site namesake Tommy Lasorda was supposed to announce the iconic introduction of “it’s time for Dodger Baseball” immediately after the first pitch. The Dodgers had Vin Scully driven in from center field from a 1965 Mustang convertible, as 1960’s music played over the loud speakers.

Many of the Dodger’s legends and hall of famers were there as well, and lined up along the base lines. Maury Wills, Orel Hershiser, Fernando Valenzuela, Tommy Davis, Rick Monday, Ron Cey, Don Newcombe, and of course, Tommy Lasorda.

Vin Scully’s grand children were all on hand and came out for a few photo opps, as they carried the Dodger’s on-deck circular logo with them. Wow, Vin has got a lot of grand children! Vin just placed the ball into Koufax’s glove. It was perfect. This pregame ceremony has been more enjoyable than the entire opening series.

But of course, Stacie and I missed the entire ceremony. Why? Because we were stuck in endless traffic on Elysian Park. So In case any of you missed it and were stuck in traffic like Stacie and I were, here it is in video form below. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing that video. I, too, missed it, as DirecTV chose NOT to carry the Dodgers’ telecast on MLB-Extra Innings. Btw, DTV is about to lose a 12 year customer if they don’t get this fixed.
