Fun Freeway Series Facts

The first exhibition game between the two teams was played in 1962 at Palm Springs. Which at that time was the Angels spring training home. The first preseason freeway series occurred when both clubs shared Dodger Stadium from April 6-7, 1963.The Angels won both of those games. Of course the two clubs regularly meet in the regular season for interleague play.

The two clubs have met 96 times in which the Angels lead the series with a 56-40 record. The largest victory the Angels had over the Dodgers was a 13-0 defeat on June 25, 2004. The Dodger’s largest margin of victory was a 16-3 win on May 19, 2006.

The Angels once won six straight games against the Dodgers from June 22, 2003- June 26, 2004. While the Dodger’s longest win streak was four games over the Halos came from May 19, 2006, – June 30, 2006.

The two clubs have played 17 interleague series against each other since 1997. The Dodgers have won just three of those series, and the Angels have won nine. The last time the Dodgers won an interleague series from the Angels during the regular season was in 2006, when they won four of six from the Halos.

There have been five splits between the two teams. (2002, 2004,2008,2009, 2013). The teams split the four games last season. The only time the Dodgers have ever swept the Angels was in 1997 when they won all four games. Check out the complete results below from every Interleague series since the clubs began playing each other in 1997.

Right now the Dodgers have a couple of former Angels. Starter Dan Haren, and Bench guy Chone Figgins, both played for the Angels. Current Manager Mike Scioscia played for the Dodgers as their primary catcher from 1980-1992. Dodger’s bench coach Tim Wallach also played for the Angels for part of a season in 1996.
