Birdman Zack Greinke Returns To The Mound

After clearing several medical checklists yesterday, Zack Greinke makes his return to the mound this afternoon in a cactus league match against the Dbacks at Camelback Ranch.

Greinke has been out since the beginning of spring with a strained right calf, and has only thrown four pitches the entire spring. The Dodgers have been playing it very cautious with him. While he won’t pitch in Australia, it looks pretty likely he’ll be ready for the regular season when the Dodgers resume the play on March 30th. He’s scheduled to throw two frames in today’s game. Rest assured the Dodgers will be keeping a close eye on him throughout the game.

On another note, manager Don Mattingly will not be with the club for today or Thursday because of a death in his family. Mattingly is expected to return to the club on Friday. In the meantime, bench coach Tim Wallach will serve as acting manager.
