The Dodgers have one of the most iconic uniforms in the history of sports. The Dodger uniform is a testament to sophistication, and class. Remaining relatively unchanged over the last 70 years, the Dodger’s uniforms have a crisp clean look. When the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958, the B on the cap changed to an LA, but otherwise the uniform stayed the same. Until the road jerseys changed in 1959, but otherwise the home jerseys never changed.
1933, was the first year the Dodger’s proudly displayed the name Dodgers on their uniforms. Before then their uniforms only said “Brooklyn” across their chests. For a while during the late 1950’s and throughout the 1960’s (from 1959-1969) the Dodger road jersey said “Los Angeles” on the front of the chest instead of Dodgers. Until the club eliminated that and went back to the classic look of just the team nickname on the front of the road jerseys in 1970. The home jerseys have always said Dodgers on the front and haven’t changed at all since 1933.
15 years ago the Dodgers changed their road jerseys back to those early 1960’s uniforms where the city name was blazoned on the front of the jersey, Now we get word that the Dodgers will be using an alternate road jersey which will feature a change back to their original design with the club’s team nickname on the front. The Dodgers will wear both road uniforms, one with the city name on the front, and the other being the classic look for the 2014 season.

I am so happy the road jerseys will once again don the name Dodgers. Even if this is only for a few games per year, I feel this is the right move. I never liked those “Los Angeles” road jerseys all that much anyways. I prefer the original uniforms. I feel the Dodger’s uniforms should always, and I mean always display Dodgers on the front. I’m a traditionalist in this regard. The Dodger uniform is a huge part of Dodger tradition, and the Dodger way. And we all know that Dodger tradition should be preserved and protected for all time.
Take a look below at the uniforms. As Hyun-jin Ryu, Brian Wilson, and Matt Kemp model the uniforms and do their little turn on the catwalk. Yeah on the catwalk, on the catwalk yeah, they do their little turn on the catwalk. The Dodgers haven’t worn alternate jerseys since they wore those powder Blue satin 1940’s era Brooklyn jerseys back in 2011. Those weren’t very popular.
Dodgers executive vice-president and chief marketing officer Lou Rosen said the Dodgers will wear the alternate jerseys when they open the season in Australia against Arizona on March 22nd.
At least they stopped using those ugly dark Blue batting practice uniforms they tried wearing back in the late 1990’s. I mean woof to those.
