Dodgers Acquire Mets Rule 5 Draft Selection Seth Rosin

The Rule 5 Draft, which took place at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the GM Winter Meetings, was relatively quiet for the Dodgers. The Dodgers had the 24th selection, but they passed on selecting any minor league players in the draft this year. Alternately, no Dodger minor leaguer was selected by any other team.

The only move the Dodgers made was to acquire right-hander Seth Rosin who was the New York Mets Rule 5 Draft pick via trade. The Mets selected Rosin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization. The Mets then turned around and traded Rosin to the Dodgers for cash considerations.

The 25-year old pitcher had a 4.33 ERA over 26 games and 126 2/3 innings for AA-Reading last season. He went 9-6 with a 6.8 K/9 and 96 strikeouts. Rosin was drafted by the Giants in the 4th round of the 2010 draft, and then they traded him to Philadelphia with Nate Schierholtz and Tommy Joseph for Hunter Pence in 2012.

As a Rule 5 Draft selection, Rosin would have to stick with the Dodgers on their Major League roster the entire 2014 season otherwise he would be offered back to the Phillies for $25,000. Rosin staying on the Dodgers Major League roster the entire season seems highly unlikely. The Mets were trying to start Rosin, but he most likely would be projected as a reliever.
