Dodgers Nearing Deal With Wilson

Indeed I was wrong, and it won’t be the last time I tell ya. It was reported that the Dodgers and Brian Wilson are progressing towards a new contract. According to the reports, the deal would be a one-year contract allowing Wilson to showcase his talent for a season in Los Angeles, before embarking on the open market the following season to seek his multi-year deal.

Of course I am very happy to be wrong here. I didn’t expect for the Dodgers to bring back the beard at first, Not because I didn’t want him back but because the club seemed to be setting a trend of letting go of their rental players from July and August. It looks like Wilson may be the exception here. After the club recently non-tendered longtime set-up man Ronald Belisario, leaving a large hole in the bullpen the signing of Wilson became more imperative.

Wilson has stated that he is happy to return as a set-up man to closer Kenley Jansen. Remember, the Dodgers still have Jansen, Paco Rodriguez, right hander Chris Withrow, and ughhghhhhhhh Brandon League under contract for 2014. Oooh sorry when I say League’s name I still cringe a little.

That would still leave about two spots open for the Dodgers to possibly add another left hander reliever. Preferably J.P. Howell. Wilson had been in heavy negotiations with the Detroit Tigers last week, who chose to ink Joe Nathan instead. The two sides are close to an agreement, but have yet to finalize a deal.
