Three Dodgers, (Kershaw, Mattingly, Puig) Nominated For Awards

The BBWAA and Major League Baseball have announced that three Dodgers have been nominated for postseason awards in 2013. Clayton Kershaw has been nominated for the Cy Young award, which would be his second. This is his third straight nomination. Don Mattingly is nominated for Manager of the Year, and Yasiel Puig has been nominated for rookie of the year.

Puig is up against rookie phenom pitchers Jose Fernandez of Miami, and Shelby Miller of the Cardinals. Puig batted .319 (122 for 382) with 19 home runs, and 42 Runs Batted In. Puig posted a .391 OBP, and a .925 OPS in 104 games, and 432 plate appearances.

Clayton Kershaw pretty much had his second Cy Young award locked up by June, but still has to beat out rookie Jose Fernandez, and stalwart  Adam Wainwright. Kershaw posted a 16-9 record, with an MLB leading 1.83 ERA, 232 whiffs, and 0.915 WHIP.

Manager Don Mattingly is up for his first manager of the year award. Mattingly guided the Dodgers from last place in June, to a 42-8 run, and a runaway NL West division crown. The Dodgers finished 92-70 under Mattingly, and in his third season as manager of the Blue he guided the club to their tenth NLCS appearance in franchise history. Also up for the award is Fredi Gonzalez of the Braves, and Clint Hurdle of the Pirates.

The rookie of the year awards in both leagues will be announced on November 11th. The Cy Young awards will be presented on November 13th, the manager of the year will be announced on the 12th, and the MVP awards will be given out on November 14th. Congratulations, and good luck to our three Dodger finalists.
