Dodgers Hope To Abuse The Cubs Some More Behind Cub Abuser Clayton Kershaw

The Red Sox and their fans are mean dude. Seriously they are mean people. The players wear mean looking beards and hit late inning home runs off of your bullpen. As Stacie put it last time, there was a whole lot of beard on beard action. And then there’s Jake Peavy. I mean what the hell is up with Jake Peavy? Why is he such a meanie head? Jake Peavy will eat your soul if you let him. But the Cubs now….Oh lord the Cubs. They’re like the exact opposite of the Red Sox. The anti Sox. When the Cubs come to town it’s like a vacation from competition. Everyone cheers. The Cubs are coming to town! Hoorah!

The Dodgers got back in the win column last night with their 6-2 victory over the Cubs in game one. Birdman came so close to getting a CG shutout. He was one out shy. But not once bitten twice shy. Warrant reference! I meant Great White, Great White guys. Yeesh, sorry my bad. Shows how much I know about 80’s Hair band music.

The Cubs are bad, and playing them is like taking easy wins to the bank. You get your wins and then you go to the teller and present that in order for exchange of goods and services. The teller looks at your Cubs’ wins check (or money order) and then looks at you and then shakes his head yes, as if to say hmmmmm, the Cubs are bad. He gets it.

So isn’t using Greinke and Kershaw against the Cubs kind of like wasting them? Then again the Dodger’s schedule isn’t very tough the rest of the way. The games against Arizona are the toughest of the remaining games. That’s saying something right? Oh and the Dodgers have a series in Cincinnati after labor day.

Either way, this should be an easy win tonight. Will the Cubs rage, rage against the dying light? Not really, again read above. The Cubs are bad. They are the Cubs. Why else would someone make up that funny song about the Cubs that got stuck in my head? Can you riddle me that?

So the Cubs will give the ball to right hander Travis Wood. The 26 year old right hander has been surprisingly decent this season. He’s posted a 7-10 record, and a 3.22 ERA. The Dodgers roughed him up good the last time the two teams played a few weeks ago when the Dodgers swept four games at Wrigley Field. The Dodgers have now won all five games against the Cubs this year, and it never stops being fun.

This is Travis Wood

Wood on August 2, was touched up by the Dodgers for five runs ,five walks, and seven hits through 3.1 innings. Wood has been struggling, as he’s allowed four or more earned runs in his last two starts. He has not won a decision since July 28 versus the equally awful Giants. Equally awful Giants never gets old to say by the way.

Wood is 1-2 with a 7.65 ERA versus the Dodgers. Yes that’s 18 walks in 20 innings folks. Wow the Dodgers are hitting .341 against this guy. Sweet!

The Dodgers will counter with Clayton Kershaw. Really the only thing I should say here is just Kershaw, and then walk away. This Kershaw guy can throw the baseballs. He’s just the best pitcher in all the land. And now after the sad news that matt Harvey is done for the year with a partially torn UCL in his pitching elbow, that means Kershaw should now easily win his second Cy Young award, which he rightfully deserves. Kershaw’s ERA is so small that you need a microscope to see it. Kershaw is 13-7 with a MLB leading 1.72 ERA. That’s the lowest ERA since that Sandy Koufax guy. I heard he was pretty good too.

Looking at Kershaw’s incredible season, the most amazing thing is that he’s having a better year now than he did when he won the CY Young award in 2011. Check it out. In 2011 he allowed 174 hits in 233 innings, and gave up 54 walks. This season he’s only allowed 127 hits in 198 frames. And he’s walked just 43. (Holy crap his ERA+ is 207!). His hits per nine rate is a record low 5.8. Kershaw has 188 whiffs to go with all of those wonderful numbers. Kershaw may not be related to Koufax by blood, but we believe he is the one. The one is a descendant of Sandy Koufax that comes around once every generation or so to lead the Dodger pitching staff to greatness. Kershaw is like our Neo, and well here we are. Kershaw loves to abuse the Cubs too. He’s got a 3-1 record, and a 1.27 ERA in four starts. That’s five earned runs in 28 frames, and 27 whiffs. The cubs are hitting .154 against Kershaw. Since when did Darnell McDonald homer off Kershaw?

This series is like the Baseball equivalent of David meets Goliath. Here’s a few tidbits I’ll just briefly touch on for a minute before signing off.  According to Tony Jackson, several Dodgers have been battling the cold. I hope they keep Kershaw in bubble wrap until game time. Shawn Tolleson suffered a setback during his rehab. His hip injury has put his return in doubt. Speaking of returns, Matt Kemp may or may not be making a rehab assignment soon. Of course the minor league season is ending in a week anyways so, shoulder shrugs.

The Dodgers are 77-54 and remain 9.5 games in front of the Snakes in first place in the NL West. After tonight only 30 games remain. The magic number to win the west is now 23. The game is on tonight at 7:10 pm but on KCAL 9, so make your plans accordingly. Why is every Kershaw start on KCAL 9? You are annoying Time Warner Cable. You suck too CBS. Come back over here after the game to read our always entertaining Dodger game recaps. Let’s Go Blue!
