Kemp And Fife Sent To DL With Shoulder Woes, Van Slyke Recalled, Nolasco Activated

When it rains it pours. You can bet when one Dodger goes back on the DL, another one isn’t far behind. As the Dodgers are preparing to begin a crucial three game series against the Dbacks at Chase Field, the Dodgers placed two players back on the disabled list.

Matt Kemp was placed on the DL yet again with shoulder soreness. The injury is officially being called AC joint inflammation or something like that. But I fear his shoulder is blown. The Dodgers recalled Scott Van Slyke to replace Bison on the roster. Since Van Slyke is replacing an injured player, he does not have to wait the mandatory ten days.

Apparently Kemp was unable to swing during batting practice without soreness, so the Dodgers decided it best to disable him. Kemp has struggled all season long after recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Then he missed 24 games because of yet another strained hamstring. Kemp is hitting .254 with four home runs , and 24 RBI in 246 plate appearances in 2013. Kemp can be activated from the DL on July 21.

Then not long after, the Dodgers announced another player was going back to the disabled list. Pitcher Stephen Fife has shoulder bursitis and will once again go back on the DL.

The Dodgers had planned on moving Chris Capuano to the bullpen as a long man, and keeping Fife in the rotation once new trade acquired Ricky Nolasco arrived. However Fife’s injury changes that. The Dodgers don’t have to call anyone up for the moment, as Nolasco takes Fife’s roster spot. Nolasco will start on Tuesday night, and Capuano will start in Fife’s place on Thursday.

The dependable Fife has been very solid since his return from his first DL stint earlier this year, Fife is 3-3 with a 2.76 ERA in eight starts for the Dodgers this season. Fife is eligible to return from the DL on July 22. The Dodgers have used the disabled list 22 times for 15 different players this season.
