Dodgers Play Pair Of Split Squad Games Today

Yesterday’s Dodger game was thoroughly forgettable. It wasn’t even worth recapping, so trust me you’re not missing anything if you didn’t watch. Losing 8-1 to the Cubs, and not being able to muster up more than a run off of Chicago minor leaguers is pretty embarrassing to say the least. Yesterday’s starter Chris Capuano allowed five runs through 4.1 innings, and didn’t look good. Let’s pretend yesterday;s game never happen, and hope for better results from today’s doubleheader.

We get a double dose of Dodger Baseball today, on this beautiful sunny Friday afternoon. The Dodgers will play a pair of split squad games, one at home against the Royals, and the other at Peoria Stadium against the Padres. One Dodger game will be played in the afternoon, the second will be played later tonight at Camelback Ranch.

The Dodgers play San Diego later this afternoon at Peoria Stadium. I count five Dodger regulars in the lineup. While Hanley Ramirez is still playing for team Dominican in the World Baseball Classic, the Dodgers will have Dee Gordon playing shortstop today and batting lead-off. Alex Castellanos gets the start in left field, batting eighth. Skip Schumaker gets the start at second base. The rest of the lineup checks out pretty normal. Here is the rest of the Dodger lineup below.

Aaron Harang vs. Andrew Cashner

The Dodgers will give the ball in the first game to right hander Aaron Harang. The Big Show will be countered by right hander Andrew Cashner, who I believe the Padres are trying to convert to a starter. If you remember, Cashner was a reliever for the Padres last year, although he did make five starts in 2012.

Shawn Tolleson, and rookie right hander Juan Abreu are expected to follow Harang and get some work in. We should also see Wilkin Castillo, Scott Van Slyke, Rafael Ynoa, Ozzie Martinez, Corey Seager, C.J Retherford, Matt Angle, and Jeremy Rathjen will all see time as reserves at some point in the game.

In the second game, the Dodgers will battle the Royals in a rare evening game at Camelback Ranch. Right hander Stephen Fife will get the start for the Dodgers in the nightcap. Check out the Dodger’s lineup for the second game below.

As you can see, Yasiel Puig will be playing right field in the night game, and batting fifth. Josh Wall, Paco Rodriguez, Peter Moylan, and Kenley Jansen are all scheduled to pitch for the Dodgers in game two. Other players listed as reserves include, Matt Wallach, Jesus Flores, Miguel Rojas, Brian Barden, O’Koyea Dickson, Nick Evans, Rusty Ryal, and Griff Erickson.

You can catch both games online. The first game will be webcast on the Padres.com site at 1 PM. The second game will be webcast on the Dodgers.com site at 7 PM. Catch all of the action online, and Go Blue!
