Arizona Fall League Update

Quite a few Dodgers are still playing baseball this offseason in the Arizona Fall League and Dominican Winter League. Let’s take a quick glance at how they are faring in the Arizona Fall League.

Here are the standings for the Eastern Division where the Mesa Solar Sox play. That is the team in which the Dodger prospects are playing for this fall along with players from the Astros, Orioles, Cubs, and Tigers.

Eric Eadington, Onelki Garcia, Red Patterson, Chris Reed, Andres Santiago, Gorman Erickson, Rafael Ynoa, and Joc Pederson are the prospects sent to play in the Fall League by the Dodgers. Yasiel Puig, who was originally slated to play in the AFL, is recovering from a staph infection in his elbow.

Joc Pederson, the left-handed top prospect out of Palo Alto High School, has batted .103 so far in 8 games played. He only has 3 hits in his 29 at bats. Pederson will be playing for the AA-Chattanooga Lookouts in 2013. Pederson hit .313 with 18 homeruns and 48 extra-base hits in 110 games at Rancho Cucamonga last season.

Gorman Erickson, a catcher, is hitting .300 so far in 8 games for the Mesa Solar Sox. He has two doubles and 1 RBI in 20 at bats. On Friday, “Griff” Erickson helped the MSS snap their 10-game losing streak by stealing home to tie the game up in the eventual 8-4 win.

Infielder Rafael Ynoa has played in 13 games, and he has posted a .319 batting average thus far. He has 15 hits, 2 homeruns, and 9 RBIs in 47 at bats. He had a 12-game hitting streak which was snapped on Friday.

As for the pitchers, Eric Eadington, a left-hander, has appeared in 7 games and has a 7.11 ERA in 6 1/3 innings. He has struck out 6 and walked 4.

Onelki Garcia, the Cuban southpaw starter, has yet to pitch in the Fall League. He reportedly has been battling bicep tendinitis. The Dodgers drafted the Cuban defector in the third round of the Draft back in June. He received a $382,000 signing bonus. He pitched in two minor league games for the Dodgers- one in A-Rancho Cucamonga and the other a playoff game in AA-Chattanooga. He struck out 11 of the 15 batters he faced.

Red Patterson is a right-hander, who is 0-1 in 6 games. He has a 7.94 ERA in 5 2/3 innings pitched. He’s struck out 2 and walked 3.

Chris Reed, the big lefty, is 1-0 so far but has a 11.81 ERA through his 5 1/3 innings pitched. He’s

struck out 4 and walked 5 in 7 games.

Andres Santiago, the Puerto Rican right-hander, is 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 3 games started for the MSS. He’s struck out 12 while walking 7 in 11 innings pitched.
