The Dodgers announced this morning that catcher A.J. Ellis underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Friday. The club described the surgery as a 30 minute cleanup procedure to debride tears to the medial and lateral cartilage. AJ is expected to resume Baseball activities in six weeks, and is expected to be ready by the start of spring training. Don’t worry guys, A.J. is going to be ok.

The injury comes as a surprise as it was not announced by the club during the regular season. This was the first full season for the 31 year old catcher. AJ had a breakout season for the Dodgers, while becoming the emotional and spiritual compass of the team. AJ batted .270 with a .373 OBP, 13 home runs, and 52 RBI in 133 games played in 2012. He also led the team with 65 walks, and ranked fourth in the league in throwing out base runners. AJ’s great worth ethic, and clutch performances elevated him to the status of internet folk lore hero throughout the season. This prompted Dodger fan Justin Drummond to create the The A.J. Ellis Facts Tumbler Page. This is a page that honors the achievements, and developing folk lore legend of A.J. Ellis.

It is unclear if the injury caused A.J.’s 0 for 30 slump in September or not. AJ himself called the procedure “a little cleanup”, and said he would be fine.

Remarkably A.J. Ellis is the eleventh Dodger to go under the knife this season. We wish AJ a nice and speedy full recovery.
