Juan Uribe Placed On DL with Wrist Injury, Elian Herrera Called Up

This just in, the Dodgers have placed third baseman Juan Uribe on the 15-day DL with a sore wrist. They have called up Elian Herrera in his place. Of course Uribe has been mostly useless this season, he was hitting just .250, with one home run and 10 RBI. Since signing a 21 million dollar three year contract in 2010, Uribe has hit just five home runs with the Dodgers.

After all the rumors, it was Uribe that Herrera is replacing. I didn’t see this one coming. Especially since Uribe played yesterday, and was in the starting lineup today. It was noted that Uribe was in his street clothes before the game, and will have an MRI on his sore wrist. Great. What makes this suck even more, is because we are getting hit with a rash of injuries, and we might have to rely on the horrendous Adam Kennedy to play third base. I am praying that Sellers is playing instead of the worthless Kennedy, who has only six hits this season. (.182 6 for 33) Hairston is still hurt, Bison is hurt, and Rivera is out for who knows how long.

As to what we will get from Herrera is unknown. I have never seen him play. From what I have read about him, and there is little info on him available, he can play all over the diamond, including all three outfield positions. I can understand why the Dodgers chose to call him up. His versatility is a plus, and he had a 17 game hitting streak with the Isotopes, so at least he come sin swinging a hot bat. Only time will tell how and if he will produce. In looking at this logically, he can’t be any worse than Gordon, or Uribe.

In order to clear room on the 40 man roster, the Dodgers have designated for assignment outfielder Trent Oeltjen. Goodbye Mate! We shall miss the Aussie outfielder.
