The Dodgers will host the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium for a three-game series this weekend. The Boys in Blue look to seek revenge on the Rockies, after they won the first series matchup between the two divisional rivals at Coors Field. The Dodgers are 20-11 and are currently 6 1/2 games ahead of Colorado in the standings. The Rockies are 13-17 on the year.

Chris Capuano will go to the mound in hopes of securing his fifth win of the season and preserving an undefeated record. Capuano has been pitching phenomenally, and he has truly surprised me so far this season. In his career against Colorado, he is 4-5 with a 3.68 ERA. The usual suspects have bullied Cappy. Todd Helton is hitting .364 against him, and Troy Tulowitzki has really given him a hard time. Tulo is hitting .625 with 2 homeruns in just 8 at bats against Capuano.

Last time out on Cinco de Mayo, Capuano pitched 7 solid innings, and he only allowed 3 hits to the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Cappy has not allowed a run in 18 2/3 consecutive innings. He joked about breaking Orel Hershiser’s record of 59 consecutive scoreless innings. You have a long way to go still, Cappy! Chris also came in to Wednesday’s game as a pinch-hitter, and he executed a nice sacrifice bunt. The Dodgers’ bench was short a man with Hairston unable to play with a hamstring strain.

Jamie Moyer may be older, but he is a crafty lefty with experience. The 49-year old has made the headlines

a couple of times this season. He became the oldest pitcher to win a game earlier in the season. Then more recently, he accused Chipper Jones of the Braves of stealing signs last Saturday. Moyer has been struggling, and during his last two starts he has allowed 9 earned runs on 21 hits. The Dodgers have roughed him up in the past, and he has a record of 1-2 with a 7.23 ERA against us. Matt Kemp, James Loney, and Jerry Hairston all have an identical .429 batting average versus Moyer, and Kemp and Loney each have a homerun against him. Don Mattingly has even faced him during his playing days.

“I faced him,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly commented about Moyer. “He was a soft-tosser then. It’s not like he went from Nolan Ryan to what he’s doing now. He was always crafty. I’m sure he’s a lot like he was in Philly and the last few times we saw him.”

Troy Tulowitzki has been nursing a sore left groin. He injured the groin back in Spring Training, but it has recently flared up again. We will also have to deal with Carlos Gonzalez who totally Rocked the Dodgers last time in Denver. CarGo is currently hitting .312 with 7 homeruns and 26 RBI. Two of those dingers were off Clayton Kershaw at Coors Field.

Jerry Hairston Jr.’s left hamstring strain has not been improving, and he has landed on the DL retroactive to May 7th. Justin Sellers has been recalled from AAA.

A.J. Ellis will get the night off, and Matt Treanor will get a start tonight. A.J. has started 24 of the 30 games played so far this season.

The game will begin at 7:10 pm and will be aired on Prime Ticket. We aren’t up in the thin air of Denver now, so let’s show them Rockies what we have!
