It’s Magic Time! Magic Johnson Group Wins Bid for Dodgers

There are few times during my tenure as a lifelong Dodger fan where I am left speechless. Tonight is one of those nights. The news is coming in fast and swift now. Almost too fast for me to keep up. Magic Johnson and his group have won the bid to buy the Dodgers according to a tweet from Ken Gurnick. The reported deal was for two billion dollars. The Magic group beat out hedge-fund Billionaire Steven Cohen, who was considered to be the front-runner, and St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke. There was issues with Kroenke’s cross ownership issue and Cohen’s shady past insider trading investigations. However Magic’s group is all gravy. Johnson will be a part owner, as Mark Walter the director of financing for the Guggenheim partners, also called the Guggenheim Baseball Management will be our new CEO and controlling partner.

The deal did not exactly include the parking lots. Apparently the parking lots will be purchased by Frank McCourt and other affiliates of the purchasing group, who will form a separate venture to purchase the parking lots and Chavez Ravine Property for an additional 150 million dollars.

Also coming over to help with the Baseball operations will be long time respected Baseball executive Stan Kasten. This is by far the best scenario for the Dodgers. Magic and his group are the most likely to preserve and protect Dodger tradition, Dodger Stadium, and bring a world series title back to Dodger Stadium. During the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium, we enter a bright bold Blue future.

I was worried that one of the out of towners would buy the Dodgers and start changing things that shouldn’t be changed. Magic is a legendary Los Angeles figure. He loves the Dodgers and he loves LA. Stan Kasten is a respected Baseball man, and the Guggenheim group has plenty of cash to make the Dodgers big spenders again in the free agent market and internationally. I am seriously pumped now for the start of the season. I ask all Dodger fans to join us. This is a wonderful and exciting time for Dodger fans.

Magic had this to say to Dodger fans

"Earvin “Magic” Johnson stated, “I am thrilled to be part of the historic Dodger franchise and intend to build on the fantastic foundation laid by Frank McCourt as we drive the Dodgers back to the front page of the sports section in our wonderful community of Los Angeles.”"

Sounds good to me. We will have more on the beginning of the Magic Johnson era tomorrow. Until then hold your heads up high Dodger fans…Our time is coming……
