Lilly, Loney, and Dodgers Go Up Against Texas

The Dodgers are now third in the Cactus League standings behind Oakland and Seattle, and they are tied for first with Miami among National League competitors. We can’t complain too much about how the Dodgers have been playing this Spring. Yesterday was the first true meltdown of the year, but by now we are very used to it. Luckily it’s only Spring Training, and non-roster players like John Grabow and Lance Zawadzki are most likely soon to be eliminated from the team. At least we had some entertainment provided by foul-blowing Jerry Hairston Jr. and hot hitting Todd Coffey in yesterday’s loss to Kansas City.

The Dodgers and Rangers will go up against each other in their second Spring game. The Dodgers beat Texas last Friday in a shutout 9-0. This will be Ted Lilly’s third start this Spring, and he has pitched five innings thus far, and has given up five earned runs including two homeruns. We will look for him to go a bit longer today.

James Loney returns to the lineup after being out a few days with a tight calf muscle. The cold bat of Juan Uribe is at third base, and unless he turns his slow start around he’s making it hard for us to see him as anything but useless again this season.

In sale news, Stanley Gold and the Disney family group as well as the Leo Hindery group are appealing to a court-appointed mediator to their rejections from the auction by MLB. The appeals will be heard on Monday by the mediator, with a ruling on Tuesday. Alan Casden’s appeal has already been denied. The Major League owners will be voting for approval or rejection of the remaining bidders next Thursday or Friday.

The 1:05 pm game will be televised on Prime Ticket.
