Hey guys, I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Here is a couple of news and notes to catch everyone up on a couple of things this weekend.
First, Matt Kemp has won the 2011 Gibby award for best player of the year. The Gibbys stand for Greatness in Baseball Yearly. Gibbys are handed out for many different categories. The Gibbys are tabulated by four main areas representing 25% of the total votes, as the player with the most votes wins the award. The four main areas are: online votes from fans, the media, managers, coaches, and MLB alumni.
Kemp won the award for Best player of the year, receiving 33.2% of the total vote. Jose Bautista, Toronto’s slugger, finished second to Bison with 19.8% of the vote. Miguel Cabrera finished third with 18%. Rounding out the top five was roider Ryan Braun 13.2% and Jacoby Ellsbury 5.5%.
As we all know, Matt Kemp is the best player in the National League, as he finished third in batting average (.324) and led the league in home runs (39), RBI (126), runs scored (115), and total bases (353). Bison was also second in stolen bases (40) and second in hits (195). Bison also finished in the top five in OBP, slugging, and OPS. Add another award on the shelf for Bison. He deserves every single award he wins.
