Dodgers Beat Giants Lose Furcal to Broken Thumb

Clayton Kershaw continued his domination of the San Francisco Giants with six and two thirds scoreless innings, but it wasn’t all good news for the Dodgers as Rafael Furcal‘s broke his thumb sliding headfirst in third base in the 5th inning. Furcal will miss at least 6 weeks. The good news, if you can call it that, is that the vesting option in Furcal’s contract that would have guaranteed him 12 million dollars next year, will likely not happen.

The Dodgers have called up Ivan De Jesus Jr to take Furcal’s spot on the roster. There is speculation all over the Dodger blog world on what the injury will mean to the Dodgers lineup and rather than add more I encourage you to visit Mike Scioscia’s Tragic Illness, where Mike has a very good article on the Dodgers options.

Lasorda’s Lair will be back after the game tonight with a complete breakdown of all the action as Chad Billingsley takes the mound against Tim Lincecum.
